Product Support Engineer

Guidance Marine has joined Wärtsilä to enhance the product portfolio in providing ‘intelligent’ shipping digital solutions to not only improve efficiency and safety of our maritime customers.

 

We have an exciting opportunity for a Product Support Engineer to join the team based in Leicester, UK. 

 

What are your main tasks and responsibilities?

 

  • Plan and schedule repairs on all returned products. This will involve direct hands on product investigation and repair across the complete product range.
  • Accurately document and report on repairs activities supporting Repair Case management and the RMA process. This will include, creation of evaluation reports, providing quotations, completing repair and test reports and maintaining repairs system database. Timely reporting of accurate information is crucial to enable the provision of efficient repairs and to agree priorities with the Operations Manager.
  • Prepare product for fulfillment of new customer orders including configuration, test and packing.
  • Troubleshooting, repair, upgrade and maintenance of Guidance products from a hardware and software perspective. This will involve visits to offshore vessels and vessel owner sites.
  • Provide remote technical support to vessels as required as part of a 24/7 Global Support Team.
  • Receive deliveries and receipt to inventory.
  • Assisting the Business Development and Engineering teams with bringing new products to market.  This will include installation of equipment and offshore trials.
  • Develop and maintain repair methods and work instructions for all products in line with ongoing product development and defined accurately to deliver a clear repair strategy for each product returned relative to age and condition. 
  • Ensure safety and quality polices are followed, that materials are accurately managed and team work load is managed.

 

What do we expect from you? 

 

  • Confident in the assembly and test of mechanical and electronic equipment. 
  • Experience of equipment testing, electronics programming, recording and basic analysis of test data, electronic board level assembly and fault finding. 
  • Ability to read mechanical and electrical drawings and schematics. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate product ideas. 
  • Excellent communication skills with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Ability to provide a positive contribution to continuous improvements and be responsible for elements of the improvement process. 
  • High attention to detail.
  • A proactive individual who is not afraid to get stuck in.
  • Good time management and organisation skills - able to effectively manage a dynamic workload. 
  • Able work effectively and efficiently independantly and as part of a team.
