Senior Sales Expert - Sensors

Wärtsilä Voyage radically transforms how vessels perform their voyage by leveraging the latest digital technologies, to deliver a step-change in safety, efficiency, reliability, and emissions (decarbonization).   


Within Voyage, the Smart Vessel product group has a Scale Up business mindset where small teams from different functions work together in a cutting-edge technology environment. Here existing and innovative technologies are deployed to build new solutions which are specifically aimed to situational awareness for the offshore, windfarm and vessel autonomy markets. The latter will grow from smart assistance systems into semi- and full autonomy solutions. 

 

For our Offshore/DP/ Autonomy sensors sales team, we are seeking a 


Senior Sales Expert – (Offshore DP) SENSORS  

 

for our location in Leicester/UK.

 

Purpose of the role:


The Senior Sales Expert (SnrSE) - SENSORS is responsible for achieving and exceeding the SENSORS global sales target and ensures future growth by active development of the sales channel(s), both Direct and Indirect. The SnrSE operates in a global sales matrix organisation and functions as a ‘bridge’ between the Head of product/Product Lead and the subject matters Sales Experts who are in the regional sales teams. 


The role is a perfect fit for a technical DP sensor expert who wants to exploit his/ her expertise in a commercial career. The successful candidate will be part of a small, global and informal team. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Sales Growth through a senior product & market domain expertise:
    • Realization of Global Order Intake for SENSORS solutions. 
    • Actively contribute and support the Regional Sales Directors (RSD) in setting Regional Sales SENSORS budgets and their targets.
    • In close cooperation with the RSD, functionally lead and support regional Sales Experts:
      • In the creation of value proposition/ quotation /response to tenders, internal bid meetings, customer negotiations based on company strategy and management guidelines.
      • Actively support and lead the closing of SENSOR business. 
      • Develop Indirect Sales channels as per Wartsila guidance
    • Aligned with the Go-To-Market (GTM) initiatives, lead the Sales team assigned GTM activities and tasks within the SENSORS.
    • Together with the Sensors team, actively support customer trials, field tests and POC’s with product expertise and positioning to the customer.
    • Together with the ‘Voyage Business Development’ team, initiate and co-develop Wartsila Smart Marine concept(s)
  • Product Support
    • Acts as the interface between Product Group, Product Office, Rapid Innovation and the global sales organization (and vice versa). 
    • Ensures product updates, product training, new product initiatives and GTM/ marketing strategies are executed within the global sales team. 
    • Ensures customer/ sales feedback related to the SENSORS is communicated to the relevant Product Group(s), Product Office, Marketing, etc.  
    • Consultatively influence and support the SENSORS product roadmap.
    • Represent Voyage at Industry Exhibitions, (Partner) conferences and potentially be a speaker.
    • Work closely with wider Wartsila sales teams to share opportunities to cross-sell sensors, DP systems and other voyage offerings.
  • Reporting
    • Strong CRM Management
    • Timely reporting using the correct formats to keep the organisation informed

 

Key requirements: 

 

  • Qualifications - bachelor’s degree (level) or equivalent by experience.
  • Experience - Extensive market experience in SENSORS within the international BtB environment. Offshore industry experience is an advantage. Proven ability to work in a functional (Matrix) organisation and lead (virtual) teams.
  • Existing network of ship owners/operators and shipyards in the offshore (O&G and wind) market will be highly beneficial.
  • Required skills: 
    • Highest levels of integrity, as per Wartsila Code of Conduct
    • Structured functional leadership skills and able to motivate teams in a dynamic sales environment.
    • Motivate and drive change when required. Lead by example whilst providing a listening ear for team’s feedback. 
    • Solution based / Strategic selling methodology
    • Public speaking/ Presentation skills
    • Ability to travel (national and internationally), estimated to 50%.
    • Eager to sell, entrepreneur style, natural drive to close deals
    • Excellent analytical skills.
    • Team player with good interpersonal and communication skills, social and outgoing.
    • International network and cross-cultural understanding is required.
