We are now looking for a Technical Author to join our skilled and motivated team of software and hardware developers. 

Purpose of the role: 

To provide technical writing expertise, creating and maintaining key documentation. This will cover both internal documentation and external, customer facing, documentation.  

You will work in a multi-disciplinary team in a supportive environment. We’ve got well-established products doing a vital job on thousands of ships across the world. We’ve got an exciting development programme which will equip intelligent ships of tomorrow with smart sensors and a perception of the world around them. 


Main responsibilities:   

  • Create documentation and other help content such as manuals, guides and FAQs, to assist customers using our equipment. 

  • Collect input from development and product management and organise into concise documentation addressing needs and expectations of our life science customers 

  • Keep product documentation up to date through life cycle 

  • Proactively initiate updates when needed 

  • Interface with marketing on re-use of documentation materials for e.g. blog posts, forum content etc. 

  • Assist with change control of R&D and software documentation. 

  • Collaborate with engineers performing testing and commissioning. 



Experience and qualities we are looking for:    

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in a related discipline or demonstrated significant experience in documentation and the delivery of quality work 

  • Experience documenting software in a professional environment and using agile methods would be an advantage. 

  • Ability to structure complex information in a simple and understandable manner, with a high level of attention to detail. 

  • Excellent and clear written communication skills. 

  • Strong familiarity with word processing and desktop publishing, Especially MS Word and Adobe InDesign 

  • A curiosity for our products and the marine environment along with resourcefulness in gathering all the information required to perform your role.
