Wärtsilä: Area Security Manager (AMER)
We are looking for an Area Security Manager to join our safety‑minded AMER QEHS team and support major growth in the Americas region, with particular focus on the USA and Mexico. This role supports our Energy, Energy Storage, and Marine businesses across the Western Hemisphere down to Argentina.
What will you be doing?
As an Area Security Manager, you will:
- Maintain and develop security operations across the AMER region, ensuring security compliance and regional alignment with Group standards.
- Implement the Corporate Incident and Crisis Management Concept in the area and lead crisis preparedness and response.
- Implement Corporate Premises Security Guidelines and associated risk management (access control, CCTV, processes, tools).
- Support personnel vetting and background screening in cooperation with HR; manage confidentiality of classified information.
- Lead security communications and stakeholder management in your area; drive customer satisfaction.
- Consult on safety and related risks: Code of Conduct and compliance, certain cyber risks, health threats, and financial crime.
- Oversee business travel security and country risk; coordinate potential evacuations.
- Conduct and oversee internal investigations in coordination with Legal/Compliance.
- Manage vendor relationships and performance for security services and systems.
- Execute structured security risk assessments; monitor regional threats and implement proactive mitigations.
- Provide corporate security expertise to Managing Directors, security coordinators, and business owners.
- Train and develop global/local personnel on relevant security topics.
- Ensure Data Protection and Privacy compliance in your area.
- Lead the regional security network (Country Security Coordinators and Travel Coordinators) and act as deputy/second coordinator to the Regional Security lead when needed.
Key responsibilities focus
- Overseeing security compliance across sites and operations.
- Vendor management and contract/scope performance.
- Regional activities coordination across USA, Mexico, and Latin America.
- Crisis management and business continuity.
- Internal investigations and incident response.
Who you are
- A trustworthy corporate security professional with excellent communication and stakeholder skills.
- Fluent in Spanish and English; Portuguese is desired (not required).
- Strong investigative skills; able to handle sensitive matters discreetly.
- Comfortable operating in complex, high‑growth environments and coordinating across multiple countries and cultures.
To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:
- Relevant education (bachelor’s or master’s) and solid related work experience; background in administration or a military/law‑enforcement environment is a strong plus.
- 10+ years in security and risk management covering premises, travel, personnel security, crisis/BCM, and relevant cyber interfaces.
- Deep knowledge of corporate security domains and regional risk landscapes in the Americas.
- Relevant industry certification preferred (e.g., CPP or equivalent).
- Very good oral and written English skills; Spanish required; Portuguese (desired).
Location and travel
- Prefered location Mexico City. Regular regional travel expected.
