Project Engineer

The Wärtsilä Exhaust Treatment business unit is at the forefront of manufacturing exhaust gas abatement solutions for the international commercial shipping market. We aim to support our customers through the green transition by offering solutions to meet current and future environmental regulations and requirements. We are soon to launch our Onboard Carbon Capture technology and foresee a massive demand over the next few years.

 

We are now looking for a Project Engineer to join our team.

 

The Project Engineer plays a crucial role in the successful execution of new build and retrofit ET projects. This is achieved in partnership with the Project Manager and through coordination and oversight of technical details throughout the project lifecycle. The position requires a genuine interest in marine technology, good attention to detail, and the ability to multitask in a structured and efficient manner.

 

The location for the position is in Moss, Norway.

 

As a Project Engineer, your key responsibilities will include:

 

  • Participating in and coordinating both basic and detailed design efforts
  • Developing and delivering technical specifications for procurement processes
  • Monitoring and controlling supplier performance to ensure timely delivery to customers
  • Coordinating and participating in testing and commissioning activities
  • Assisting the Project Manager in project management, with a focus on quality and risk management
  • Preparing and managing technical information and documentation
  • Reporting, communicating, and discussing technical matters with internal teams, customers, and suppliers
  • Independently managing simpler customer projects
  • Completing additional tasks as assigned by the Project Manager
  • Participating in internal development projects as needed
  • Continuously improving work processes and procedures

 

To be successful in this role, we expect you to have: 

 

  • Proficiency in both written and spoken English
  • A self-driven attitude with the ability to take initiative and make informed decisions when necessary
  • Strong organizational skills, with a focus on efficiency, accuracy, and attention to detail
  • A flexible, positive mindset, combined with curiosity and a desire to learn
  • Willingness to travel internationally, if required
  • An interest in progressing towards project management roles
  • Relevant experience, preferably within the marine industry, is an advantage
  • Excellent coordination and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a distributed project team
  • A Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a relevant technical field such as process engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or automation
