SLRS Service Technical Manager

Are you ready to drive innovation and excellence in the maritime industry? We are on the lookout for an SLRS Service Technical Manager to join our dynamic and rapidly growing team, committed to getting vessels back in operation with minimal downtime through effective and agile repair activities worldwide. 
 

The preferred location for the position is in Moss, Norway, but also other locations across our global operational regions is possible. We offer a possibility to hybrid work.

 

What will you be doing?
In this global role, you will become a crucial part of Wärtsilä Shaft Line Repair Services (SLRS). SLRS is a growing segment within SLS, playing a critical role in our strategy with a team of dedicated professionals across the globe, supporting both commercial and naval fleets. As the SLRS Service Technical Manager, you will lead and elevate our services, including onsite operations, alignment calculations, and inverse engineering, while managing a team focused on enhancing our service capabilities. You will report directly to the SLRS Business Development Manager.

 

As SLRS Service Technical Manager, your work will focus on these responsibilities: 

  • Leadership: Oversee and manage all aspects of alignment services, from diagnostics to implementation, ensuring top-tier standards are met.
  • Team Development: Supervise and cultivate partnerships with external service providers, arranging training plans to boost their skills and capabilities.
  • Capacity Building: Lead the creation and growth of an in-house team to establish our alignment capacity, fostering internal expertise.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the primary technical liaison with classification societies, shipyards, vessel owners, and other key stakeholders to ensure compliance and project success.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with sales and project management teams, providing training and technical support.
  • Customer Interaction: Be a key leader, assisting in customer meetings to ensure project alignment and success.
  • Expert Guidance: Offer expert advice on alignment procedures during repair projects, ensuring technical integrity and efficiency.
  • Global Travel: Travel internationally as needed to oversee alignment operations and build strong relationships with stakeholders.
  • Strategic Contribution: Contribute to the SLRS vision and strategy by defining and implementing best practice processes, procedures, and systems globally.


To be successful in this role, we expect you to have: 

  • Experience: Extensive background in alignment services, including practical onsite execution and head office follow-up & calculations.
  • Industry Knowledge: Solid experience in the repair ship industry with a comprehensive understanding of its dynamics and challenges.
  • Network: Established global connections with key stakeholders in the repair and maritime industry, including classification societies and shipyards.
  • Relationship Management: Proven experience in managing relationships and negotiations with multiple stakeholders.
  • Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to build and mentor a high-performing team.
  • Technical Acumen: Strong technical skills combined with excellent communication and organizational abilities.
  • Language: Fluency in English; additional languages are advantageous.
  • Education: A relevant technical degree and at least 5 years of experience in a similar role.

 

Success in this role will be measured by:

  • The development and expansion of our alignment services.
  • The efficiency and quality of the services delivered.
  • Positive feedback and engagement from stakeholders and partners.

 

In this role, some travel is required to meet with our customers around the world. Thus, we hope you to be ready to travel approximately 40%, even though most of the meetings are held virtually.
