We are now looking for a Chief Project Engineer, Civil to strengthen our Energy Business Project Management team in Wartsila India Pvt. Ltd.

Preferred location(s) for this position is Wärtsilä’s location in Mumbai, Chennai or Remote.

 

The main responsibility of the position is to manage the civil scope of the assigned new build customer delivery projects, from early Sales phase, through the project planning stage and project execution, until closing and handing over of the project. The energy projects can be located both in India and Globally, so the person should be ready to travel.

 

The person we are looking for has a solid experience from leading industrial project- and/or construction management, is customer oriented and can show great skills in negotiations, both technical and commercial. Ability to work in different teams / environments and excellent social skills is a must.

 

Accountabilities:

  • Accountable for Civil technical solutions, supervision of ordered services, purchasing, quality, contract / requirement compliance, customer satisfaction, schedules and budget of duties assigned to him/her.
  • Accountable for having full control over the technical part of Wärtsilä scope of supply, from sales to engineering and construction until the hand-over of the project.
  • Accountable for performing the project work in compliance with Company Project Management Methodology and Business Directives.
  • Accountable for reporting periodically status of his/her responsibility area to his/her superior.

 

Main responsibilities:

  • Safeguard that works under own responsibility area are executed according to contract / requirements, specifications, instructions and policies.
  • Plan the works with the total costs, schedule and customer needs in focus.
  • Integration responsibility for own technical area, including integration engineering between cross functions ( Electrical needs, Mechanical needs, Instrumentation needs ) and 3rd party equipment suppliers within technical area
  • Technical ownership of project solution.
  • Manage project activities according to contract / requirements together with external vendors and internal team members.
  • Responsible for all technical correspondence and assistance with the customer and other stakeholders
  • To be a representative of the company.
  • Participate in customer / stakeholder negotiations and maintain good customer / stakeholder relationships.
  • To follow-up and report quality, use of resources, costs, schedule and scope of the responsibility area. Making Separate Civil work schedule integrating with the total project schedule.
  • Identify, mitigate, monitor and report risks in own responsibility area.
    • Developing Civil Contractors/Consultants/ Geo-tech Consultants-surveyors and keeping a list after assessment.
    • Making cost estimation for Indian EPC projects ( Civil part) and give it to Sales for submission.. Presentation to various customer at times explaining our Technical specifications and competencies. List of projects handled.
    • Reviewing design calculation/ drawings/documents and issuing to sites just in time
    • Awareness of Design codes/manuals/latest Techniques.
    • Making Civil BOQ and Tender documents for floating tenders , negotiations and  finalisations of Civil contractors
    • Comparing Design quantities and As-Built quantities time to time
    • Focus on cost and claim management for extra works done at site by keeping proper records/justifications
    • Documentation Management/As-Built Drawings/Lessons Learnt.

 

Educational Requirements, Experience and Skills

  • Bachelor- or Master’s degree in civil/Construction engineering. ( In India Diploma holders with 15 years’ experience also considered).
  • 10 years of civil/construction management (project- and/or site management) experience.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with customers, peers, subordinates, vendors, shop and office in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Team player attitude internally and externally.
  • Entrepreneurial drive with a positive mind-set.
  • Willing to travel.
