Cost Engineer

Are you a practical but solution-oriented engineer that likes to be challenged with cost-down engineering projects for our state-of-the-art Waterjets? Is an international product oriented working environment in the maritime industry something that excites you? 

 

Due to the growth of our global waterjet projects we are looking for a Cost Engineer to improve the cost structure of our Wärtsilä Waterjet Product Portfolio. As a Cost Engineer you will have the chance to work in a small but dedicated team that is responsible for the R&D, Engineering and Technical support with a 100% focus on our demanding shallow water and high-speed waterjet products for our international customers.

 

In close cooperation with our R&D Engineers you will think in solutions for Cost Down Engineering from the early design stage up to the manufacturing stage. You analyse the structure and design of our products, consider cost efficient alternatives for components and assemblies.  

Besides our Design Engineers, Mechanical and CFD Expert in the team, you will have the chance to work in close cooperation with our Procurement department, Sales (support), and our suppliers around te globe. You will report directly to the General Manager Engineering of our Product Group Waterjets.

What are your main tasks and responsibilities?

  • You come up with innovative solutions together with Engineering and R&D to reduce the cost price of future waterjets.
  • Be involved in Engineering Projects in order to analyse and adjusts estimates in order to recommend ways to reduce costs.
  • Update the information in our Quotation Management System (QMS) to keep our key figures and prices up-to-date.
  • You Identify missing information in our system and drawings and find possibilities for cost reduction.
  • Works with stakeholders through the project process to achieve market competitive project pricing in cooperation with our purchasing departments. 

 

What do we expect from you?

  • You hold a vocational or bachelor’s degree, preferably in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Production technology or similar.
  • You have experience with product costing (machining cost prices, production method costs).
  • You have a solid understanding of the process of customised Product Engineering within a global environment.
  • Good communication skills in English (and Dutch) and a not shy to pro-actively get and stay in contact with relevant stakeholders.
  • A basic understanding of CAD systems (preferably Siemens NX) and PDM systems (Teamcenter).
  • Up-to-date awareness of our sector trends and activities.
