Hydrodynamic Expert, Waterjets

Are you a technician who is always looking for new cutting-edge solutions and product improvements?

Do you have knowledge of Fluid Dynamics or flow simulations? Do you want to become the hydrodynamic expert of our waterjet product group? If the above questions can be answered with a yes, then you might be the person we are looking for.

Monday morning, you get yourself a cup of coffee and meet our Waterjet Sales Manager in the meeting room. He is going to meet a new customer in Australia next week, who is going to build a new fast ferry. You discuss with him which waterjet solutions we can offer and which waterjet would offer the most ideal performance for this specific vessel.

The next day, you dive in another performance question from a customer. The waterjets we have recently installed at one of their navy vessels, does not perform conform our expectations. These things come unexpected but fortunately are rarely happening. You might need to schedule some field validation tests to figure out where to find the solution for this issue. Together with colleagues specialising in field measurements you make arrangements and will depart to Spain in two weeks to help with the testing.

The rest of the week you have scheduled to work on the latest research and product developments for our newest range of waterjet products. Together with our Mechanical Experts and Design Engineers you are going to share your latest research about inlet performance and a new nozzle design.

What are your main tasks and responsibilities?

  • Expanding the waterjet application knowledge by both performing and coordinating CFD studies in close cooperation with other Wartsila departments and external parties.
  • Take part in hydrodynamic research studies and being able to specify and interpret the results of such studies.
  • You assist our sales department regarding performance questions by means of advice, desktop studies or direct customer contact.
  • Where needed you occasionally publish and present your findings in order to confirm Wärtsilä expertise.
  • You are responsible for the final selection of customer specific waterjets, nozzle size and inlet design, including CFD validation of it.
  • You define, lead and participate in the development projects for waterjet product improvements.

What do we expect from you?

  • You hold a Master degree in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Sciences or similar.
  • Experience in Fluid Dynamics or Flow simulations.
  • You have some experience in designing, developing and servicing hydrodynamic systems.
  • Knowledge of various fluid dynamics theories and their theoretical models such as CFD.
  • Any experience or affinity with naval architecture is an advantage.
  • Sense for business, experience working in project teams and you are familiar with deadlines and targets.
  • Good written and oral communication skills in English, and preferably in Dutch.
