Project Purchaser

As a Project Purchaser within Wärtsilä Netherlands, you are in the heart of our dynamic maritime business where you will especially have a focus on our propulsion product portfolio. Your main challenge in this role is to manage the total project supply chain of high value, complex project assemblies and deliveries for our maritime customers.

 

In this position, you are the main contact person for all Project Procurement related activities from order up to the final delivery of our equipment on board of our customers vessels. You work according to our project delivery schedule in close cooperation with engineering, sourcing, order intake, project management, logistics and suppliers. On average, you will be working on more than 15 projects simultaneously with suppliers spread over the whole world.

 

You will be part of a team of 9 other purchasing professionals located in the Netherlands, Finland, Norway and China. Due to the international character of this job you will be in daily contact with many international colleagues and external stakeholders, in the beginning especially in India. You report to our Manager Project Purchasing.

What are your main tasks and responsibilities?

  • You create bills of materials handed over from our Engineers and act on all related purchasing activities for the assigned products and their components.
  • You make sure that all components and documentation is available at needed time at the chosen subcontractor in order to secure on time delivery.
  • Spot buying and sourcing selection of key components that is not covered by corporate agreements, including price negotiations.
  • You act on price increases that are not in line with the scope of the project and will take action where needed.
  • Monitor your project orders and measure quality level, delivery reliability, costs and lead time.
  • Verify long and short-term forecasts alignment with Supply Chain Management and send forecasts to suppliers.
  • You communicate your project status updates on weekly basis with all involved stakeholders.  

 

What do we expect from you?

  • You hold a bachelor degree in Supply Chain Management, Technical Business Administration or similar in combination with 5 years of experience within technical purchasing.
  • Preferably you have worked within a technical and production related working environment with an international character.
  • You have experience working with an ERP system, preferably SAP  
  • You are a good negotiator with solid communication skills.
  • Sense for business, experience working in project teams and you are familiar with deadlines and targets.
  • Good written and oral communication skills in English, and preferably in Dutch.
