Sales Engineer

For our International Marine Power Solutions (MPS) Sales Engineering department, we’re looking for an ambitious or upcoming Sales Engineer to join our team.

As a Sales Engineer you will be involved in multiple sales projects concerning our Waterjets and Propulsion product portfolio. Together with the Sales Manager you will cover the whole technical scope from the early sales phase, up to the sales offering and deal transfer to the project teams. This means that you draft the sales offer taking the parts, materials, location of construction, estimated working hours and delivery date into consideration when calculating the price of the project.

You will work in close cooperation with our Area Sales Team and Wärtsilä Network offices & Product Teams in the technical and commercial support of Waterjet opportunities towards our customers. This position is located in Drunen (The Netherlands), but due to the international character of this job, you will be working with other Sales Engineers and Sales Managers around the world.


Due to the matrix setting of our organisation, you will be dealing with networking and relationship building in an international working environment. Willingness to travel occasionally is a must.

What are your main tasks and responsibilities?

  • Set up the sales offerings, including the formulation of technical and commercial documentation for solution proposals based on customer requirements.
  • You provide the technical support in the sales phase and support the area Sales Teams.
  • Undertake sales price calculations for components, sub-assemblies, installations, repairs, upgrades, training, studies and technical solutions.
  • Coordinate the deal transfer from the sales department to Projects and Engineering Group.
  • Determine the content and scope of solutions for a proposal quotation, based on discussions with Wärtsilä network offices and/or customers.


What do we expect from you?

  • Preferably you hold a bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture, Shipbuilding, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent combined with a good understanding of the maritime sector.
  • We are open to starters who are keen to learn and grow in this position.
  • You are customer and supplier-oriented and eager to develop yourself in the role.
  • You have strong analytical thinking capability and excellent communication skills in English, verbal and written.
  • You are able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and achieve results. In addition, you are independent and show initiative with an entrepreneurial spirit.
