<span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">What do you do as a Technical Support Engineer? That’s a good question. Let us try to give you some examples of your work throughout a week.
<span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">It’s Monday morning, just started your laptop. Your coordinator assigned a new Techrequest issue that needs to be looked into, next to the requests that you have already on your name. It looks challenging and the case is urgent as a vessel’s undocking schedule is at stake. Today you’ll work remote from home using the efficient digital network and applications and decide to involve an expert from the Technical services expert team to define a well-considered approach. Together you determine the actions and luckily you can divide the work between the expert and yourself. The deliverable is needed ultimately Wednesday afternoon so timing is of the essence. Now first communicate the planning to the involved parties, being here warranty, field service and account management. Then you can spend time working on other issues on your agenda. MS Teams pops-up, showing the name of a product development engineer asking your attention… 
 

<span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">Wednesday evening you can close the Techrequest having provided sufficient support, the repair drawings with the connected procedures are suiting purpose, such confirmed by the site team. That means that, during a day in the office on Thursday, the root cause analysis meeting can take place to dive in the investigation of a component failure together with an R&D expert and a Field Service specialist. You really enjoy these in depth sessions where concept and application really meet. By that time, a few new requests have dropped in that will easily fill the remainder of the week. Let’s have a chat with the coordinator to set the priorities. 

<span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">One thing you know for sure, next week will look different again but there will be some of the same and some new ingredients.

 

<span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">As a Technical Support Engineer in Wartsila Technical Service Propulsion, you will find yourself in the technical heart of the exiting world of the Maritime industry. You provide the highest level of technical support for our propulsion products to our customers and other stakeholders for our installed base. You will provide this support in the field of installation, maintenance and troubleshooting for all Controllable Pitch Propellers, Waterjets, Rudders and Fixed Pitch Propellers in the Wärtsilä Marine Power portfolio.

 

<span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">You are part of our Technical Services Propulsion team (operates from two locations, Drunen in The Netherlands and Rubbestadneset in Norway), which ensures customer satisfaction through world-class technical support in propulsion equipment. The propulsion products consists of a variety of Steerable- and Transverse Thrusters, Controllable Pitch Propellers, Reduction Gears, Water Jets, Marine Gearboxes, Rudders and advanced control systems. You will report to our Manager Technical Services.

<span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">What are your main tasks and responsibilities?

  • <span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">You ensure customer satisfaction by providing high quality and on-time support enabled by world-class competences in propulsion equipment. 
  • <span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">Primarily be responsible for handling Technical Requests received from external and internal customers. Techrequests provides support for installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance & repair activities worldwide.
  • <span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">Provide input for the product improvement process and create Service Bulletins. 
  • <span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">You participate/perform in Root Cause Analysis and perform expert technical field investigations and screening of field service reporting. 
  • <span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">Participate/contribute in product development activities. 
  • <span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">You work in close cooperation with the partner teams within Technical Service Propulsion and Expert Services. Close cooperation exists amongst these teams to enable efficient and world-class support. 

 

<span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">What do we expect from you?

  • <span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">Bachelor degree in Mechanical engineering, Marine Engineering or equivalent.
  • <span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">2-5 years of working experience in a technical design, maintenance or operator environment. Relevant experience with operations and/or installation and maintenance of marine equipment is a strong plus. 
  • <span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">Experience with engineering or field service on propulsion equipment or with other large rotating equipment or even Wärtsilä propulsion products is a huge advantage. 
  • <span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">A true team player with a proactive approach and technical reporting skills.
  • <span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">You are a strong communicator with good organizational and analytical skills.
  • <span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">Customer focused and service minded attitude. 
  • <span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">You are willing to travel occasionally (like 1 or 2 trips yearly, 1-3 days), generally Europe.
