Design Engineer Controls Retrofit

We are now looking for a Design Engineer Controls Retrofit to join our team in Panama.

What you will be doing?

The Senior Design Engineer Controls Retrofit is responsible for complex customized design of Propulsion Control Systems to replace old technology or add functionality (on Wärtsilä and non-Wärtsilä equipment). Adapted design to existing interface and available spaces. Lead design engineering team. Lead troubleshooting process. Supervision during production by subcontractor. Create technical specifications and cost estimations during sales phase. Present technical solutions to international customers. Knows developments in hardware and software design.

Senior Design Engineer Controls Retrofit will have functional leadership of max. 5 people. In approx. 2 locations/countries.

 

 

  • Lead a (international) design engineering team for custom design propulsion systems.
  • Create and maintain the design specification for a multi-disciplinary project.
  • Take the responsibility so that the design specifications reflects the technical specification and all approved request for changes.
  • Design and review hardware for the customized propulsion control systems according class rules and customer specifications, based on the design specification during project and interfacing with existing/remaining Wärtsilä and non-Wärtsilä equipment on board. 
  • Responsible to design cost effective.
  • Responsible for proper follow-up of the (customer specific) quality procedures.
  • Design and review software for the customized propulsion control systems according class rules and customer specifications, based on the design specification during project.
  • Take the responsibility for proper follow-up of the (customer specific) quality procedures.
  • Arrange documentation (e.g. manuals) related to the propulsion control systems.
  • Make sure all documentation (manuals, design specification, drawings, software, class approvals) are proper stored during and after project.
  • Responsible for the daily supervision of subcontractors during the production phase.
  • Answer technical questions of subcontractors.
  • Guarantee that everything is produced in accordance with the agreements
  • Create and maintain testing procedures for the propulsion control system.
  • Lead and perform Factory Acceptance Tests with class societies and customers to demonstrate that system design and manufacturing meet specifications.
  • Take the lead on board of the ship, when Superintendent has issues during installation and commissioning.
  • Do accurate trouble shooting during production, installation and commissioning of propulsion control systems.
  • Perform on site/board surveys and make technical specifications and cost estimations during sales phase.
  • Take the lead in technical discussions with international customers and stakeholders.
  • Provide the customer with specialized technical advice and find the most effective and efficient technical solution that meet customer requirements.
  • Guide sales engineers in selecting the correct parameters for propulsion control systems.
  • Minimize the risk of failure and prevent problems.
  • Contribute to the continuous (further) development of the product portfolio.
  • Carry out research for the improvement of existing products and the development of new products within the specified program requirements and budgets.
  • Mentor for new Design Engineers Control Retrofit.
  • Serve as a source of information for new or less experienced colleagues and share knowledge of propulsion control systems design.
  • Train the customer in the operation of the system and how to properly use the product.
  • Execute development and maintenance of design engineering tools and software according latest regulations and technology.
  • Monitor (technical) developments in the own discipline.
  • Monitor process performance and identify shortcomings and bottlenecks in current engineering processes.
  • Define proposals for improvement to optimize processes, tools and products and to develop feasible, reliable technical solutions.
