The EHS Intern will support daily Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) activities at Wärtsilä’s Monterrey plants. This position provides hands-on exposure to EHS operations in an industrial environment, supporting field activities, data management, compliance follow-up, and employee engagement initiatives that contribute to regulatory compliance and incident prevention.

Key Responsibilities
- Participate in safety inspections to identify unsafe conditions and behaviors.
- Support verification of PPE usage, housekeeping standards, safety signage, and safe work practices.
- Assist in monitoring compliance with internal EHS rules, corporate standards, and client requirements.
- Support follow-up of corrective and preventive actions derived from inspections, audits, and incidents.
- Assist in documenting incidents, near misses, and hazard observations.
- Support basic data collection for incident investigations and risk assessments.
- Assist in updating job hazard analyses and risk assessments under supervision.
- Support tracking of EHS KPIs such as safety inspections, near-miss reporting, training completion, and action follow-up.
- Maintain organized digital and physical EHS documentation.
- Support preparation of toolbox talks, safety campaigns, and internal communications.
- Assist in organizing EHS training sessions and tracking attendance.
- Support basic environmental controls, including waste segregation and chemical storage checks.
- Assist in maintaining Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and chemical inventories.
- Support preparation activities for internal and external audits.
Requirements
- Recent graduated or in last semester of a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Safety Engineering, or a related field.
- Availability to work full-time.
- Interest in Environmental, Health & Safety topics within an industrial environment.
- Basic knowledge of occupational safety and environmental principles (academic level).
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Ability to communicate clearly and work collaboratively with different teams.
- Willingness to perform field activities in a plant environment.
