Product Manager
Water and Waste business unit (WAW) is a true end-to-end business as part of Wärtsilä Portfolio Businesses. We have now a unique and exciting opportunity as we approach divestment to become a standalone entity for a Product Manager to join our Engineering organisation in Poole, UK. This is a strategic and high-impact role, responsible for shaping the future of our marine environmental product portfolio, including both standard solutions and engineered turnkey systems.
What you’ll be doing
As a Product Manager, you will play a pivotal role in defining product strategy, driving lifecycle performance, and ensuring our offerings meet evolving customer and regulatory expectations.
You will:
- Lead the full lifecycle management of our marine environmental product portfolio, including strategy, roadmaps, prioritisation, and development planning.
- Analyse market trends, customer insights, regulatory drivers (IMO, MARPOL, Class), and competitor activity to inform product direction.
- Define product value propositions, requirements, specifications, and cost targets across standardised and bespoke solutions.
- Work closely with R&D, Engineering, Sales, Project Management, and Services to ensure product improvements and new developments meet performance, compliance, schedule, and cost objectives.
- Act as the voice of the customer throughout New Product Introduction (NPI) and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Drive commercial readiness activities, including pricing, documentation, training materials, and launch support.
- Review in-service product performance to identify opportunities in safety, quality, profitability, maintainability, and compliance.
- Support internal teams with product selection guidance, technical clarifications, solution configuration, and customer-specific requirements.
- Represent Wärtsilä professionally with customers, shipyards, suppliers, and classification societies.
- Travel up to 10–20% for validation, commissioning, customer visits, and product support activities.
What we’re looking for
To succeed in this role, you should have:
- A higher-level qualification (Degree/Master’s) in Engineering, Marine Technology, Environmental/Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of Product Management experience, ideally within the marine or industrial technology sectors.
- Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks (e.g., IMO, MARPOL, Class requirements).
- Proven ability to lead product strategy, lifecycle management, and multi-disciplinary product development initiatives.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate technical and commercial concepts clearly.
- Strong analytical skills and experience evaluating market, customer, and regulatory drivers.
- Experience collaborating with engineering, R&D, project, and service teams.
- Professional product management certification (AIPMM, Pragmatic Institute, or similar) is an advantage.
- Membership in relevant engineering or marine institutions is preferred.
