Proposals Engineer

Water and Waste is an end-to-end business as part of Wärtsilä’s Portfolio network.


Wärtsilä Water Systems, mainly located in Poole, UK, is a global leader in designing and supplying innovative wet and dry waste solutions for passenger vessels.


WWS established portfolio contains conventional waste management equipment, two types of approved designs of ballast water management systems and oily water separators. In addition, Wärtsilä Serck Como, based in Geesthacht, Germany, designs, builds and delivers Fresh Water Generators, like HiTE, reverse osmosis and desalination.


Our Technical Sales Department are looking to welcome an enthusiastic and passionate Proposals Engineer to join the team.


This role is offered on a permanent basis and is located in Poole, UK.

What will you be doing?


As a Proposals Engineer your work will focus on these responsibilities:


•    To carry out and be responsible for the design and costing of the solution that meets customer specification or configure solutions using defined in-house tools
•    Communicate technical assistance/clarifications to internal and external customers
•    Give technical presentations as required both internally and externally
•    Ensure that response time for sales enquiries, requests and orders are met
•    Participate in relevant sales meetings with customers where necessary
•    Participate and lead technical sales handover meetings when required
•    Develop good working relationships within Wartsila through effective business-wide networking
•    Build and maintain strong working relationships with customers
•    Participate in the review and development of internal process and procedures to ensure effective and efficient ways of working
•    CRM Management, evaluate enquires as well as register and maintain opportunity information
•    Assess market conditions with internal and external customers


The below will enable you to shine in this role:


•    Degree/NVQ or equivalent experience in a relevant engineering subject
•    Performance and results oriented mindset
•    Excellent customer focus; personable, presentable and able to work effectively with internal and external customers
•    Demonstrable technical communication skills 
•    Track record of successful negotiations, supported by contractual & commercial knowledge
•    Extensive experience of quotation management, sales processes and tools
•    Proven ability to understand a customer and their business as well as sales financials
•    Working knowledge of CRM systems e.g. SalesForce.
•    Fluent English language skills both written and verbal


You will be at an advantage with:


•    Experience working in water treatment industry 
•    Wartsila knowledge and business understanding
