Legal Counsel, Energy Storage & Optimization

 

Wärtsilä is looking for an energy storage specialist lawyer for a permanent, full-time position based in the UK or in the EU. This counsel would join a high-performing and close-knit team of lawyers across the world in the Energy Storage & Optimization Business Unit at Wärtsilä. This role reports to the Head of Legal, Energy Storage & Optimization

 

We are looking for a legal teammate that will be the missing piece in our legal team, and that will

  • Support the ES&O business by providing solutions-oriented and proactive legal advice and assistance on all matters concerning sales, life cycle, projects, and disputes in energy storage, mostly in the UK, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg
  • Guide the business on contracting matters by negotiating, drafting, and advising on commercial contracts, including spotting (and solving) commercial and operational risks
  • Manage and liaise with external counsel on disputes and on local law challenges
  • Reinforce our Wärtsilä ethos of safety and ethics above all
  • Implement, coach, and refine Wärtsilä policies and work processes to streamline work and better support the business and our customers

 

What do we expect from you?

Education:

  • Qualified lawyer in the United Kingdom or the European Union (with home-country experience in France, UK, Belgium, the Netherlands, or Luxemburg a plus)

 

Experience and Skills:

  • Have a minimum of 5 years work experience in either a private practice or an in-house corporate legal role
  • Strong English oral and written skills, with knowledge of French a plus
  • Experience in construction or utility projects, renewable energy/energy storage and software licensing

 

Other skills:

  • A positive attitude and the ability to craft business-minded solutions
  • Good initiative and a strong sense of ethics
  • Experience in negotiations and interactions with customers, along with readiness to travel on occasion
  • Solid drafting, presentation, and communication skills, with first chair experience a plus
  • The ability to work in a multicultural organisation functioning across multiple time zones and through virtual teams
