Water and Waste business unit (WAW) is a true end-to-end business as part of Wärtsilä Portfolio Businesses. WAW is a global leader in designing and supplying innovative wet and dry waste equipment and freshwater generation solutions for passenger vessels & conventional waste management and ballast water treatment equipment for all marine segments. WAW has the industry’s broadest product offering to secure beyond compliant operations for our marine customers.



We have now a unique and exciting opportunity for an Operational Purchaser for the Water and Waste business, Water Systems Ltd. based in UK, Poole, Dorset. 


As the Operational Purchaser you will be responsible for the issueing of Purchase Orders, handling of Goods Receipts and supplier invoices in compliance to Supply Management processes/procedures, strategies and agreements.


What will you be doing?


  • Ensure On time Delivery for one or several projects in execution by doing order execution and purchase order follow up until delivery at manufacturer/customer site.
  • Prepare and follow up process improvement plan for one or several vendors to improve KPI (On time delivery / Automated invoices / SAP data cleaning)
  • Identify as early as possible risk of delay from supplier by doing preventive and regular check.
  • Take care of day-to-day contact towards supplier for commercial activities related to purchasing to establish and maintain good relationships with suppliers
  • Create and negotiate claim towards suppliers not covered by Project Purchasing
  • Participate in development of tools and processes needed for Supply Management
  • Issue Purchase Orders, Handle Goods Receipt and supplier invoices in compliance to Supply Management processes/procedures, strategies and agreements.
  • Support in inbound deliveries when needed.
  • Secure the on-time procurement of all Spare parts of project.


You will shine in this role when you have:


  • Basic negotiation, influencing and presentation skills.
  • At least 2 years experience in a fast paced purchasing environment
  • Experience in dealing with an international suplier base
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to be able to build rapport with suoliers and colleagues and resolve queries
  • Problem Solving and decision making oriented.
  • Fluent written and spoken business English,
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Effective time management, workload and forward planning skills
  • Strong personal drive used to take own initiatives and be proactive
  • Strong experience in SAP & Office IT Tool is mandatory
  • Strong Analytics Skills
