Are you ready to make precision your craft? Wärtsilä Shaft Line Repair Services (SLRS) is looking for an Alignment Engineer with a growth mindset to ensure optimal performance of vessel propulsion systems worldwide.

 

 

What will you be doing as an Alignment Engineer?

 

As Alignment Service Engineer, you will be responsible for the successful execution on-site of alignment measurements, corrections and adjustments of propulsion components, attend daily repair-meetings with customer, shipyard, contractors etc. Your role will involve extensive travel worldwide.

As Alignment Engineer, your work will focus on these responsibilities:

 

  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting of shaft lines in cooperation with colleagues and external clients
  • Perform precise alignment measurements for shaft line systems on ships.
  • Analysis of measurement data.
  • Participation in the commissioning of new buildings- and repaired- installations globally.
  • Supervise machining and repair processes to ensure adherence to technical specifications and quality standards.
  • Collaborate closely with on-site teams, providing technical guidance and support as needed.
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with the head office, ensuring all relevant information is accurately reported and documented.
  • Prepare detailed service work reports on alignment measurements, repair processes, and outcomes.
  • Provide technical advice and recommendations to clients and internal teams.
  • Ensure and promote compliance with all safety and environmental regulations during on-site operations
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance our service and customer satisfaction.

 

The tasks can also be adjusted based on your individual skills and interests. You’ll be working as a part of a dedicated, energetic, transparent team - SLRS Service team with diverse expertise.

 

 

To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:

 

  • A safety-first mindset.
  • A passion for developing your service to the next level.
  • Relevant technical education or a combination of education and experience in a similar role.
  • Relevant practical experience will be an advantage, such as
    i) Laser- , jack load- , run-out-, metrology-, strain gauge- measurements
    ii) Installation of stern tube bearings, line shaft- bearings and components
    iii) Bearing machining (Supervision)
  • Flexible and persistent approach to the tasks performed in an inter-organizational environment.
  • Commercial flair and business understanding.

  • You thrive in an environment sometimes under pressure to meet customer deadlines.

 

Travel Requirements:

 

This position requires up to 80% travel commitment, encompassing both domestic and international, including onshore and offshore locations. The role demands adaptability to varying travel demands, with an expectation of extended periods away from the primary work location. Prospective candidates should be prepared to fulfill these travel obligations as an integral aspect of the position's responsibilities.
