Legal Counsel

Wärtsilä Energy Business is looking for a Legal Counsel to join its Energy Services legal team in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.  Other Wärtsilä locations in South or Central America are also negotiable.

 

Energy Services provides lifecycle services and solutions to power plant owners globally. As a Legal Counsel in the Energy Services legal team you will handle various types of legal and compliance matters in relation to the Energy Services business. You will also contribute to the development of new business and concepts, including developments related to decarbonisation services. In this position, you will be part of a global legal team and report to the Head of Legal, Energy Services in Wärtsilä Energy Business. The preferred location is Rio de Janeiro.  

 

Main responsibilities
- Providing commercially oriented and solution based legal support and compliance advice to the business in a variety of business matters.  
- Review, negotiate, draft and advise on various types of transactions and commercial contracts. 
- Support the business in the development and implementation of business models and concepts. 
- Support compliance and governance management in the business. 
- Manage claims and disputes.  
- Provide training to the business on relevant legal and compliance issues. 
- Actively participate in the development and implementation of policies, work processes and templates 

 

What do we expect from you? 


A.    Education: 
A law degree from an accredited law school. Member with the relevant local Bar Association (or equivalent).  


B.    Experience and Competences: 
- Strong experience in either an in-house or a private practice role. Experience from the energy sector is a plus. 
- Relevant experience that includes corporate and commercial transactions in an international setting, including experience from developing contracting models, structuring cross-border projects and long-term service agreements and customer interactions.  
- Excellent command of English, Portuguese and Spanish, both written and oral.

 

C.    Other skills: 
- Excellent negotiation and influencing skills coupled with commercial acumen and strategic thinking.  
- Solid drafting, presentation and communication skills 
- Business and customer mindset with ability to see the big picture and where one can best add value for the business 
- Can-do attitude combined with an innovative mindset and willingness to challenge the status quo 
- Team oriented with a positive attitude  
- Ability to work in a multi-cultural organisation and virtual teams 
- Readiness to travel.
