Position Description:

We are seeking a qualified candidate to fill a Controls Engineer position located in San Diego, CA.  The Controls Engineer will report directly to the GNC Manager. 

 

The Controls Engineer will have the following duties and responsibilities: 

  • Design and develop algorithms and software for the marine industry including autonomous vessels, offshore- and wind farm vessels, navy ships, cruise ships and mega yachts.
  • Develop and maintain mission critical Windows based vessel real-time control software.
  • Design and develop mathematical models for ships and sub-systems, including aerodynamic, hydrodynamic, mechanical, actuators and sensors.
  • Full lifecycle development from concept to mature scalable product.
  • Commissioning of special projects with Dynamic Positioning and motion control systems.
  • Provide maintenance, support and enhancements to existing systems and applications.
  • Sustaining engineering of existing products.
  • Documentation.

 

Preferred Experience and Educational Requirements:  

  • Master of Science Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science with an emphasis on Control Theory combined with strong programming skills or equivalent relevant background.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience.

 

Qualifications:

  • Highly motivated and able to work under minimal supervision.
  • Strong experience with algorithm development, including filtering techniques, estimation and control theory.
  • Experience with Octave and/or MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Experience with Kalman filter design and tuning.
  • Strong experience with C, C++ and object-oriented programming in Windows environment. C# experience is a plus.
  • Experience with Visual Studio.
  • Experience with Version Control Systems and Software Configuration Management.
  • Must be well organized and able to multi-task and keep track of simultaneous on-going projects.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Experience with test-driven development.
  • Must be able to pass a basic physical fitness test.
  • Must be willing to travel up to 20% of the time.

 

Travel:

  • Domestic and international travel required for purposes such as on-site commissioning, troubleshooting and testing, attending meetings, field service support, conferences, training, or as required for job related duties.
