Business Development Manager

Wärtsilä is seeking a Business Development Manager, for the Energy Business to join our team in Saudi Arabia.

The successful candidate for this position will be accountable for originating sales, creating demand, and producing leads for end-to-end business for New Build and Agreements and sales projects in Saudi Arabia.


As a part of Energy organization, you will be part of region business development team driving initiatives on the energy transition and renewable solutions. This position is based in our Jeddah office and directly reports to Energy Business Director, Region Middle East.


This position main accountabilities and responsibilities are:-

  • Promote Wärtsilä products/solutions to create strong market presence and build long-term relationship with existing and new customers through-out the life cycle.
  • Promote Energy Business strategic objectives and value based selling propositions to support customers’ decisions
  • Originate new business opportunities and pipeline for energy new build projects and agreements.
  • Accurately forecast and deliver sales with profitability and risk profiles according to Wärtsilä directives.
  • Responsible for order-in-take and order book for assigned country/ market.
  • Own customer relationship and opportunity business case/es (Capex & Opex)
  • Increase awareness of Wartsila products and services and develop tailored business cases and promote the full life-cycle value for the customers.
  • Accountable for strategy and account planning for the assigned customers
  • Establish country action plan, maintain sales opportunities data in CRM and keep updated progress.
  • Develop long term customer relationship & satisfaction, by supporting customers in their lead development and decision-making process and ensure high level satisfaction during the whole sales process and execution. 
  • Lead and formulate proposal strategy, negotiations and contracting process with customers internal stakeholders and coordinate deliverables tasks with clear expectations.
  • Lead negotiations (technical & contractual) and ensure quality aspects related to commercial, technical, risks and compliance are addressed.
  • Collaborate closely and support BDM, Commercial, BDM Lifecycle and Country Operations team to increase awareness of business and adapt offerings.
  • Support customers in their lead development and decision making with arguments supporting full life-cycle view
  • Represent Voice of Customers to internal stakeholders.
  • Develop a solid understanding of relevant local legislation and the requirements for doing business.



  • Comprehensive understanding of the energy/power sector (IPP & utility, Cement & Industry, Mining), country energy policy and economic drivers.
  • Solid understanding of relevant local legislation, regulatory landscape, and the requirements of doing business in a commercial energy environment.
  • Consultative or value based selling skills, with ability to understand customer needs and develop a winning solution.
  • Demonstrate success influencing senior level stakeholders in utility, commercial and industrial energy environments.
  • Experienced working with a top tier management consulting/ investing firms and governmental energy regulator.
  • Strong business and results-orientation with proven track record in successfully leading energy sales projects.
  • Strong technical / commercial aptitude, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
  • High attention to detail, with ability to drive complex opportunities to profitable closure.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and SalesForce.com, and ability to learn new tools to support objectives.



  • Candidate must be a native Arabic speaker, preferred to be Saudi nationality.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in business development role, in renewable energy, independent power producer (IPP), equipment supplier, utility or other power market environment.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in the business or technical field.
