Manufacturing Engineer - Mechanical

Wärtsilä’s Energy Business is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer - Mechanical for the Energy Storage & Optimization business. The role will be part of the Manufacturing Engineering team. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter that can work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team. The candidate should thrive in a fast paced, constantly changing environment while the industry and company go through substantial growth.
The location for this position is at Wärtsilä's office in Toronto, ON, Canada. This will be a onsite role.
Responsibilities:
• Provide troubleshooting support to the contract manufacturers for mass production
• Define manufacturing issues and risks to the product team and support driving solution and implementing it
• Drive root cause analyses for solving enclosure manufacturing issues
• Analyze production to understand manufacturing uptime, availability, reliability, quality and investigate bottlenecks to identify root cause and countermeasure
• Evaluate product based on specifications and quality standards
• Work independently with vendors and design team to understand root cause of failures, propose design or component changes, and implement and validate design changes
• Lead Engineering Change Requests/Notifications (ECRs/ECNs) from proposal to implementation
• Lead design work for mechanical changes by updating product drawings & models
• Support cost reduction efforts and identify new cost take out and ideas
• Review product design and confirm manufacturability in collaboration with product development team and factory personnel.
• Support IP test of the product and maintaining the IP test procedure
• Drive continuous improvement in manufacturing processes
• Collaborate with the larger team to optimize requirement and needs
• Support defining and design tooling & fixtures for advance manufacturing and process improvements
• Ensure processes are followed utilizing quality management system
• Collaborate in a team environment and/or take charge of opportunities to develop optimal solutions.
Minimum Experience and Educational Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
• 7+ years of experience in manufacturing/process engineering, with focus on container/enclosure manufacturing is an asset
• Hands-on experience of AutoCAD software Autodesk Inventor or similar
• Knowledge of mechanical enclosures/containers design, welding, manufacturing, and testing
• Knowledge of Lean manufacturing process
• Strong understanding of good documentation practices
• Familiarity with NEMA and IP enclosure design and testing is an asset
• Maintain positive working relationships with peers, subordinates, vendors, shop and office in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to work with global team from different backgrounds and on different time zones
• Flexible and willing to adapt and learn
• Excellent communication skills
• Team player attitude internally and externally
• Willing to travel 40% of the time.
