Junior Service engineer

Are you freshly graduated from Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science or similar education, and a passion for Marine industry? Would you like to combine your knowledge and passion to improve, update and install complete automation, navigation and communication systems? Are you not afraid to get your hands dirty on board of our customers vessels during service, the commissioning and installation of these systems? Then you might be the Service Engineer we are looking for.

 

As a Junior Service Engineer at Wärtsilä Voyage Solutions, you are not only servicing our customers automation, navigation and communication systems, but you are part of the fast moving developments in the exiting and dynamic maritime world. In this position you’ll be responsible for all kind of services on board ships on our Automation, Navigation and Communication equipment, as well as the installation, commissioning and maintenance of this equipment. You work in a team, we train and guide you to become an independent engineer, with a wide range of knowledge but also some systems you specialize in.

 

No day will be the same, since you will be working on a wide range of client vessels such as, commercial cargo, offshore, fishery, yachts, navies, etc. Besides repairs and commissioning activities, you for instance occasionally perform yearly radio surveys or annual performance test for specific equipment. It’s not only field service you do, it can also be a new-built or retrofit project. Thanks to you we are able to provide an efficient and reliable service, maintenance and repair network.

 

Your office and workshop are located in Schiedam, with a working area in the main harbours of the Benelux and occasionally world-wide. Did I already say, ‘no day is the same’, one day you can be in a plane, the other day attend a sea-trial or find your way through the labyrinth that a ship can be.

 

What are your main tasks and responsibilities?

  • You are / will become responsible for the installation, commissioning and maintenance of all kind of, Automation, Navigation and Communication equipment on board our client’s vessels.
  • Troubleshooting and performing route cause analysis on the customer’s equipment.
  • Create service reports related to the executed services.
  • Being a pair of Wartsila eyes and ears, you have a nose for opportunities to gain extra work on board.
  • Inform internal and external stakeholders such as the customer, service coordination, sales spare parts and account manager, regarding your activities on-site.
  • You make sure you are equipped with the needed tools and parts needed on your project.

 

What do we expect from you?

  • You have a secondary vocational degree in electrical engineering, electronics or similar.  
  • No working experience, not a problem. As long as you are highly motivated and eager to learn and passionate about the maritime industry.
  • If you already have some working experience with Automation, Navigation or Communication systems, you are also more than welcome to apply.
  • Affinity with configuration and installation of various network devices and services.
  • Structured, good attention to detail and self-motivating.
  • You have strong communication & problem solving skills.
  • You have an excellent customer understanding.
  • You fluently communicate in both Dutch and English.
