We are looking for a Quality Control / Quality Assurance Engineer (QC/QA) to join our Workshop team, consisting of 50 professionals, working on all Wärtsilä Engines and Propulsion equipment. This is a position is to be based in Schiedam, the Netherlands.
What will you be doing?
As a QC/QA Engineer you are responsible to create and manage the conditions that the overhauls and repairs in the propulsion workshops are carried out to the Wartsila standards and in line with requirements from the Classification Societies. The QC/QA activities requires a high level of autonomy that will be supported by the workshop managers, team leaders and coordinators managing the customer orders and projects.
In this role, your work will include all quality related topics within a workshop environment. On a typical day, you might be starting with a Classification survey and end the day with an inspection of machined components.
For us to be the best match is when you have a solid understanding of mechanical installations, their technical drawings, machining and assembly activities, quality management systems and experience with process improvements within a workshop environment. As an ideal candidate, you have gained experience in quality inspection, testing and assembly procedures, understanding classification requirements, and knowledge of ship engines and propulsion systems.
Your responsibilities for the role include, but are not limited to:
- Ownership of all QC/QA documentation and ensure these are up to date (measuring equipment, hoisting equipment, workshop tools)
- Lead internal workshop related audits and follow up findings
- Educate and train local workshop employees to ensure that Quality procedures and standards are understood and complie
- Coordination of internal Quality inspections of orders and projects in the workshops and ensure these are correct and in time documented and reported
- Create Quality plans based on “critical” assembly activities in case no standard plan is applicable or available and improve the existing Quality plans
- Preparation of the required documentation and planned visits by Classification Society surveyors for witnesses of the installations during and after assembly to comply with their regulations
- Managing all administration of Classification related documentation and contacts with the Classification Society surveyors Manage nonconformity cases, analyze data and drive improvement
- Active role in department audits, both internal and external for ISO certification
The below will enable you to succeed in this role:
- Experience in a Quality role in a Service environment
- Knowledge of Quality operations and processes like Quality inspections, Quality control, measurements and assessment of the condition of components and assemblies, risk management.
- Knowledge of Classification Societies and their regulations
In addition, the ideal candidate will:
- Collaborate actively across teams
- Maintain positive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
- Drive and participate in continuous improvement initiatives on quality
- Have an eye for detail and accuracy
- Have a service-mindset
- There might be overtime or weekend work required at times for which we offer compensation.
- Be fluent in Dutch and good proficiency in English
