Account Sales Representative

In this position you are part of Wärtsilä Sales organisation with a focus on Marine Power & Environmental products & Propulsion systems. You are the first point of contact for all our Dutch customers, related to all transactional Service Sales activities such as engine overhauls, propeller repairs, environmental solutions, retrofit and upgrade assignments. The last years our marine sector has proven to be resilient and opportunity rich. We would like to invest in this growth opportunity by focussing our sales efforts on existing and dormant accounts within the Marine industry, focusing on service and parts opportunities.


As an Account Sales Representative you join a growing Sales team with colleagues in the Netherlands (Schiedam office), UK, Poland, Denmark and Germany and Finland.  You will also work in close cooperation with the local Account Managers, Sales Proposal Engineers and Service Coordination department. In this position you are reporting to the Team Leader Sales Proposals (MP Sales, Business Support, Region 4).


The preferred location for this position is our Schiedam office, but we are open for other Wärtsilä Netherlands locations as well.

Your main responsibilities are:

  • Manage sales activities and customer relationships to reach sales and margin targets further develop present assigned customer relationships.
  • Develop, report, and assume accountability for sales and sold margin budget among assigned customer accounts.
  • Identify and develop relationships with potential customers.
  • Create account plans for major customers, including execution and system updates of the plan.
  • Collect and communicate market intelligence and competitor information.
  • Maintain accurate customer records among assigned customer accounts (incl. visit reports and opportunities in the CRM system).
  • Follow up on customer inquiries, orders, and complaints.
  • Manage stakeholders by building a good network (both internally and externally) of relationships with customers, influencers, and decision makers.


Main requirements in this role are:

  • Demonstrate developing and proven track record of hands on and (remote) sales.
  • Good knowledge of the regional (maritime) market and its drivers.
  • Customer focused with service minded attitude along with sound commercial understanding.
  • You are performance and result orientated.
  • Excellent communication skills, fluency in written and spoken in Dutch and English
  • Be extremely well organised and methodical and demonstrate a goal-oriented mind-set.
  • Drive results with excellent planning and clear understanding through use of CRM and associated measurement tools
  • Feel accountable for your sales impact, act and adjust when performance is not as expected, clearly communicating the impacts, deviations, and corrective action plans to recover.
  • Contribute to the developing Transactional organization with high passion and drive – while making sure that it is fun doing business.
  • Have a growth mindset with an ability to challenge status quo


Speed, and clear communication will be a key to success in this role. You should operate with a mindset of urgency and communicate in line with a bias towards “transactional” rather than a “consultative” sell whilst meeting the needs and always validating the requirement of the customer.
