Senior Mechanic

As a Senior Mechanic at our Propulsion Workshop you will be responsible for the overhaul, repair, assemble and upgrade of all types of marine propulsion systems such as Controllable Pitch Propellers, Tunnel and Steerable Thrusters, Oil Supply Units, etc. On each assigned project you shall use Wärtsilä manuals, instructions, drawings and procedures.

 

You will have the chance to work in a technically interesting environment within the maritime industry. As a Senior Mechanic you will be part of our Propulsion Workshop team existing of 20 propulsion professionals.

 

 

What are your main tasks and responsibilities?

 

  • You will work on disassembly, inspection, assembly and testing of complete propulsion installations and components.
  • Serving as the point of contact for technicians working on other projects during assembly and disassembly activities
  • Assessing an installation after disassembly and proposing to the Team Leader and Workshop Coordinator which work (repairs or replacements) is required for assembly.
  • Advising technicians on the correct working methods in the workshop (mentor role)
  • Performing work on his own projects
  • You ensure that the work is executed according to Wärtsilä Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental guidelines and procedures
  • Assisting the Team Leader with planning short-term and long-term work activities. 

 

 

What do we expect from you?

 

  • You have thorough technical knowledge and experience with mechanical assembly procedures.
  • At least 3 years of experience with Propulsion installations
  • Strong ability to read and understand technical assembly drawings and assembly instructions.  
  • Ability to maintain an overview of all ongoing projects in the Propulsion Workshop
  • Dutch and English written and verbal skills. Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • You are able to work under pressure as well as the flexibility to take part in overtime and weekend shifts if needed for certain orders/projects.
  • Ability to switch quickly and flexibly between different projects
  • Coaching and mentoring skills
  • Solution-oriented and decisive
