Are you mechanically inclined and eager to build a career in marine repair? Do you enjoy hands-on work and want to learn how to keep vital vessels running smoothly?
We are looking for a motivated In-Situ Machining Engineer to join our team and learn the ropes of on-site marine repair.
What you will do:
You will assist our experienced team in inspecting large marine engine components, such as engine blocks and cylinder liners, to help identify wear and damage. Under direct guidance, you will prepare for jobs by organizing the necessary portable machining tools, ensuring everything is ready for transport, and safely setting up equipment in the work area.
As you develop your skills, you will perform fundamental machining tasks and provide hands-on support to senior engineers during more complex procedures, such as milling or flange facing. You will also learn to use standard mechanical measurement tools to check dimensions and verify that parts align with basic specifications.
Working in shipboard environments presents unique daily challenges, and you will help the team adapt to tight spaces while learning how to troubleshoot on the job. Your day-to-day responsibilities will also include maintaining a clean and safe workspace, participating in routine quality checks, and assisting with the basic documentation of completed work. Because our work happens where the vessels are, you should be ready to travel with the team to various shipyard and port locations to support these repair projects.
The following will enable you to succeed in this role:
- 2-3 years of job-related experience with some on-site machining or in a similar role, including:
- Line-boring using boring bars.
- Use of laser and optical alignment equipment.
- Use of mechanical measuring equipment.
- Tool calibration and verification.
- Metal stitching experience.
- In-situ machining using crankshaft machining tools (preferred).
- Performing grinding services using portable grinding machines.
- Proficiency in using machining software and tools.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
- Valid driver's licence B.
- Strong English language skills, both written and spoken.
- Willingness and flexibility to travel.
In addition, the ideal candidate has:
- Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong practical problem-solving skills and a solution-oriented mindset, with the ability to adapt when faced with challenges.
- A self-driven and proactive approach to work.
- A great eye for detail.
- A service-oriented approach and a drive to provide the best possible customer experience.
