Specialist Mechanic

As a Specialist Mechanic at our Propulsion Workshop you will be responsible for the overhaul, repair, assemble and upgrade of all types of marine propulsion systems such as Controllable Pitch Propellers, Tunnel and Steerable Thrusters, Oil Supply Units, etc. This role is to be based in our Schiedam Propulsion Workshop.

 

 

What are your main tasks and responsibilities:

 

  • You will be expected to perform operationally as a Senior Mechanic
  • Executes specialized technical tasks, such as submitting improvement ideas or modifications or identifying root causes, in workshop operations, adhering to quality standards and safety regulations.
  • You are the point of contact (technical expert) for this. You provide support to the training centre and deliver training to people from the field who need to follow on-the-job training.
  • You specialize in one product. Product types that we use in the workshop are tunnel thrusters, main propulsion, OD boxes, steerable thrusters, and underwater‑mountable thrusters.
  • You are on site expert that oversees repair procedures at third party workshop locations.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of workshop best practices and industry standards, applying this knowledge to daily operations.
  • Conducting failure analysis and reporting findings to engineering or management.
  • Performing corrective repairs to restore equipment performance.
  • Supporting field technicians and Workshop/Senior Mechanics with technical expertise, in complex cases regarding his/her product type specialization
  • Contributes to the development and improvement of workshop processes, practices, and systems by analyzing current way of working and collaboration with the training center, field service technicians and technical support.

 

 

What do we expect from you?

 

  • You have deep technical knowledge and experience with mechanical assembly procedures.
  • Has sound knowledge within the workshop specialty.
  • Is able to travel to other Wärtstila locations to act as a hands-on technical expert.
  • You are specialized in one of the following products: tunnel thrusters, main propulsion, OD boxes, steerable thrusters, and underwater‑mountable thrusters.
  • The ability to read and understand technical assembly drawings and assembly instructions.
  • You are familiar with the industry safety standards and practices.
  • Dutch and English written and verbal skills
  • Collaborate actively across teams
  • Maintain positive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Drive and participate in continuous improvement initiatives
