We are now looking for a Workshop Team Lead to head our skilled Propulsion Workshop team. The role is offered as a permanent contract and the location is Schiedam, Netherlands.

 

 

What will you be doing?

 

As a Team Lead in our Propulsion Workshop, you are responsible for the operational management of the daily work activities of the mechanics in the Propulsion Workshop (20 FTE). Together you will work on overhauling, repairing, building, and remodelling all types of marine propulsion systems, such as propellers, thrusters, and oil supply units, to name a few.

 

Your main responsibility is the daily planning, coordination, and execution of the workload, along with managing the progress of the propulsion assemblies. You will also continuously ensure that the team is motivated and is willing to walk the extra mile when needed. In this position, you will report to the workshop manager.

 

 

Your responsibilities for the role include, but are not limited to: 

 

  • Preparing assignments by checking drawings, technical specifications, and assemblies, along with transportation regulations.
  • Ensuring the availability of all required parts, documentation, work instructions, and planning schedules.
  • Keeping an eye on and maintaining safety, quality, and 5S topics on the workshop floor.
  • Leading a team of mechanical specialists, coaching, evaluating, and executing development discussions.
  • Ensuring that the level of quality remains at top level by inspecting the work execution and addressing people when needed.
  • Approval of inspection / work reports.
  • Continuous improvement of ways of working and processes, while also adhering to the processes already in place.

 

 

The below will enable you to succeed in this role:

 

  • A high safety standard in your way of working, that aligns with Wärtsilä safety standards.
  • Staying up to date on current technologies, both hardware and software (Windows 365, SAP, SWF etc.)
  • A vocational or associate degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar educational background.
  • Preferably 5 years of working experience in a production or maintenance environment of mechanical installations.
  • Experience within the marine industry or propulsion installations will be considered an advantage.
  • Knowledge or affinity with repair procedures like machining and welding.
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings.
  • Stress resistance and flexibility.
  • Service-mindedness.
  • Strong natural leadership skills with a positive no-nonsense approach and the ability to coach a team, enhancing motivation and thus performance.
  • Proficiency in Dutch and English languages, both written and verbal, along with strong communication skills.
