Technical Sales Manager(Propulsion)

Introduction

We are looking for an energetic and proactive Technical Sales Manager Propulsion to join Business Unit Propulsion. The ideal person for this role would have solid propulsion product knowledge, a customer centric mind-set and is able to generate and close sales opportunities for Propulsion new builds.

 

As a Technical Sales Manager you will be responsible for promoting and selling Propulsion products for selected geographical area in China. You will drive multiple sales opportunities for mainly Thrusters, Propellers, Gearboxes and Propulsion Control Systems, but also other Propulsion products. You will cover the whole scope from generating leads and opportunities to deal closing.

 

You will work in close cooperation with the local Chinese Sales Team and the different product groups in Business Unit Propulsion. You will provide technical and commercial support for propulsion opportunities towards our customers.

This position is preferably located in Shanghai, China, but other Wärtsilä locations in China may also be considered.

Purpose

  • To increase Propulsion new-build sales in China for selected Propulsion products
  • To capture and contract Propulsion new-build sales opportunities complementary to the local Sales Team scope
  • To actively visit Chinese shipyards and Chinese shipowners building ships in China (complementary to local Sales Team scope list)

 

Your main responsibilities are

•              Generate opportunities and contract orders for Wartsila Propulsion products for selected segments and geographical areas in China complementary to the local Sales Team scope

•              Actively and proactively pursue stand-alone Propulsion new-build sales opportunities, which may arise in cases when propulsion products are not bundled with other Wärtsilä equipment on a vessel

•              Prepare the sales offerings, including the formulation of technical and commercial documentation for solution proposals based on customer requirements (on the spot if needed)

•              Determine and tailor the content and scope of solutions, based on discussions with our customers

•              Create and entertain strong relationship with new build shipyards and owners in China

•              Ensure Wartsila is on the makers list of the Chinese shipyards for Propulsion products

•              Promote Propulsion products by making presentations to customers

•              Create, improve and tailor our Propulsion value propositions

•              Influence customer decision making

•              Regular exchange of information and alignment of the sales projects with the local Sales Team

 

You will shine in this role when you have:

 

  • Several years of sales experience or working in a customer interface, preferably in the marine industry
  • Knowledge of the Chinese marine market
  • Commercial and technical understanding of the Wartsila Propulsion products and solutions
  • General level technical understanding of hydrodynamics
  • Ability to engage in dialogue with different levels of the customer's organization
  • You are independent and pro-active, you are used to take own initiatives
  • You are result oriented and have a strong entrepreneurial drive
  • Negotiation skills and ability to close deals
  • Chinese language mastery
  • Good communication skills, fluent written and spoken English
  • Willingness to travel frequently within China
  • Preferable educational level: BSc 
  • Knowledge of and ability to work with Wärtsilä sales tools (CRM and QMS)
