Data Engineering Intern

We are looking for a Data Engineering Intern to join the Digital team in Singapore. As part of this program, interns will have the opportunity to contribute and drive data processing, analysis and visualization activities in Wärtsilä’s key Smart Marine projects. We expect our interns to have strong analytical instincts backed up by coding skills, and a strong desire to learn and understand Wärtsilä’s business.  The main responsibilities of the incumbent include:

 

 

Data defining and mapping 
Create a data dictionary for various projects that outlines critical and useful information about the data and provides stakeholders insight into how the data needs to be managed. 
Identify opportunities and develop plans for additional data collection based on project context and objectives. 
Become a “data owner” for a project, ensuring that there are continual checks on the timeliness and accuracy of the data. 
 
Data processing 
Create or leverage code automation to process high-volumes of quantitative and qualitative data and subsequently identifying errors, outliers, trends, business rule exceptions and business insights. 
Work with global stakeholders to provide ideas on improving the accuracy, extraction, processing and visualization of their own data flows and datasets.  
 
Data and analytics visualization 
Filter, refine and transform the outputs of data processing activities into compelling reports and presentations that are easy for data-novices to understand – readily relying on a simple flow of “data used > insights gained > actions recommended”. 
 
Software development 
Provide informal support to a collection of software development projects, with specific focus on business requirements, functional specifications, test cases and the overall user experience. 
 
 
Ideally, you should
Preferably be taking a Degree or Diploma in Data Science and analytics field (most preferred) or Computer Science 
Have good command of knowledge on data cleaning using code automation (e.g. Python, R). 
Be experience with processing of high-volume quantitative data using code automation (e.g. Python, R). 
Have good experience and knowledge on data and analytics visualization using charting software (e.g. Excel, Tableau, PowerBI, matplotlib, Google Charts). 
Be familiar and/or experience with processing of novel and high-volume qualitative data types (primarily images, videos, text) using machine learning APIs or methodology. 
Be familiar with the software development lifecycle.
