Field Service & Alignment Engineer

Field Service & Alignment Engineer

 

In this position you will become part of Wärtsilä Shaft Line Repair Services (SLRS), the organisation responsible for services delivered by Wärtsilä Shaft Line Solutions (SLS). With around 900 employees SLS is a fully E2E business unit within Wärtsilä Marine Systems; SLRS is a growing organisation within SLS and critical to strategy. SLRS includes over 120 dedicated field service professionals located all around the world, our priorities are to stay safe, keep customers happy and to have fun.

 

To increase MEA sales and business, SLRS are looking for an experienced Field Service & Alignment Engineer who is ready to travel the world in order to deliver a wide range of services on an extensive range of products; supporting a global install base of over 30,000 vessels. You will be located in Singapore or nearby countries and will be part of a team responsible for SLS Field Service in East & Austral Asia Region.

 

Your main responsibilities are

  • Perform expert alignment measurements using modern laser technology.
  • Perform and compare results of jack-up tests using load-cells and other traditional methods.
  • Replace and overhaul SLS products and perform complete re-alignment of propulsion shaft lines.
  • Act independently and professionally to lead discussions with customers.
  • Act independently and professionally to supervise related work carried out by others on site.
  • Liaise effectively with back-office support teams, reporting all necessary information required for calculation and analysis and effectively take direction in a timely and professional manner.
  • Provide daily update reports and progress status of the assigned work to all stakeholders.
  • Produce and provide a high standard of Service Work Reports in a timely manner.
  • Perform Field Service activities such as scheduled maintenance, overhaul, repair, replacement and retrofit of SLS products according to work plans when required.
  • Ensure that the work is executed according to QSHE guidelines and site procedures and policies.
  • Follow-up and report on the status of work orders to customer and/or internal stakeholders.
  • Generate leads (New Sales Potentials) for SLS.
  • Continuously seek for solutions in according to best practises.

 

As an ideal candidate, you should have the following

  • A safety first mind-set.
  • You are passionate about developing SLS E2E-business to the next level. 
  • Experienced in propulsion shaft alignment using laser measurement tools and related equipment.
  • Well versed on shaft alignment procedures and methodologies, ensuring accurate results.
  • Understanding of Shaft Alignment Calculation software and procedures.
  • Experience in vibrations measurement highly beneficial.
  • Relevant technical education or qualifications as a combination of education and experience.
  • Technical experience in marine engineering with practical problem solving skills.
  • Proven experience of installation, operation, maintenance and repair of propulsion shaft lines.
  • Highly effective technical communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Interact professionally and deliver solutions to customers during the work execution.
  • Experience of working with electrical systems beneficial.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office suite.
  • Fluent in English with relevant additional language skills beneficial.
  • You are willing and able to travel.

 

In this role, your success will be measured by

  • Order-intake, net sales and EBIT for SLS.
  • KPIs set by FS Manager and FS Area Manager MEA
