Wärtsilä Energy Business is looking for a Legal Counsel to join its Engine Power Plants Legal & Compliance team in Singapore.
As a Legal Counsel in the Engine Power Plants Legal & Compliance team, you will handle various types of legal and compliance matters in relation to the Engine Power Plants business, for the Middle East and Asia region, but primarily in the Australasia and North and South East Asia areas. This role is focused on drafting and negotiating equipment supply and EPC contracts with our customers and their advisors, as well as subcontracts and procurement contracts with the supply chain. You will also be involved in resolving legal issues that may arise in project execution and advising business on any other operative legal matters.
In this position, you will be part of a global legal team and report to the Head of Legal, Engine Power Plants in Wärtsilä Energy Business. The location of this position is Pandan Crescent, Singapore. We offer a flexible hybrid working model after the probation.
As Legal Counsel, Engine Power Plants, your work will focus on these responsibilities:
- Provide commercially oriented and solution based legal and compliance support to the business in a variety of business matters.
- Review, negotiate, draft and advise on various types of transactions and commercial contracts, including equipment supply and EPC contracts with customers, and subcontracts and procurement contracts with suppliers.
- Provide legal support to project execution teams.
- Manage claims and disputes.
- Upon need, liaise with and manage external counsel on disputes and local law matters.
- Support with compliance and governance matters in the business.
- Provide training to the business on relevant legal and compliance issues.
- Actively participate in the development and implementation of policies, work processes and contract templates & coach business colleagues with the foregoing.
To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:
- Qualified to practise law in a relevant civil or common law jurisdiction, with a law degree from a reputable university.
- A minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience in either an in-house or a private practice role with experience in negotiations.
- Relevant experience includes corporate or commercial transactions in an international setting, especially from energy or construction sector. Experience from project development business or from working on projects in Australia is a plus.
- Excellent command of English; ability to draft and negotiate contracts independently. Other language skills are a plus.
- Excellent negotiation and influencing skills coupled with commercial acumen and strategic thinking.
- Solid drafting, presentation and communication skills. You have the skill to translate complicated legal matters to business stakeholders in an understandable way.
- Capable of managing a variety of stakeholder networks and navigating through different priorities.
- Business and customer mindset with ability to see the big picture and where one can best add value for the business.
- Good initiative, a strong sense of ethics and the ability to balance risk to Wärtsilä with win-win solutions for our customer
- Can-do attitude combined with an innovative mindset and willingness to challenge the status quo.
- Team oriented with a positive attitude, ability to work in a multi-cultural organisation and virtual teams.
- Readiness to travel.
