Regional Legal Counsel, Energy Storage & Optimization
Wärtsilä Energy Storage & Optimization Business Unit is looking for an energy storage specialist lawyer for a permanent, full-time position based in Singapore. The preferred location for this position is Singapore, but Taipei, Taiwan would be considerable. This counsel will join a high-performing and close-knit team of lawyers across the world. In this role, you will report to the Head of Legal, Energy Storage & Optimization (“ES&O”).
We are looking for a colleague to be the missing piece in our legal team that will:
- Support the ES&O business by providing solutions-oriented and proactive legal advice and assistance on all matters concerning sales and life-cycle solutions in energy storage, mostly in Taiwan and the Philippines.
- Support and advise the business on contracting matters by negotiating, drafting, and advising on commercial contracts, including spotting (and solving) commercial and operational risks
- Manage and liaise with external counsel on disputes and on local law challenges.
- Reinforce our Wartsila ethos of safety and ethics above all
- Implement and refine Wärtsilä policies & processes and coach business colleagues in those to better support the business and our customers
What do we expect from you?
- Legal qualification in a common law or civil law jurisdiction, with experience in Taiwan or the Philippines a plus
- A minimum of 5 years work experience in either a private practice or an in-house corporate legal role with experience in negotiations & interactions with customers
- Experience in renewable energy, energy storage and software licensing and/ or experience in the region is an advantage
- Fluency in English and Mandarin; ability to draft & negotiate in English and simplified Chinese
- Excellent negotiation and influencing skills coupled with commercial acumen and strategic thinking
- Solid drafting, presentation, and communication skills, with first chair experience a plus. You are able to translate complicated legal matters to business colleagues from various functions in an understandable way
- Good initiative, a strong sense of ethics and the ability to balance risk to Wärtsilä with win-win solutions for our customers
- A business and customer mindset with an ability to see the big picture and where one can best add value for the business
- The ability to manage a variety of stakeholder networks and navigating through different priorities
- Capacity to work in a multi-cultural organisation with virtual teams across multiple time zones
- A team-oriented, positive can-do attitude combined with an innovative mindset and willingness to challenge the status quo
- Readiness to travel on occasion
