Software testing engineer

We are now looking for a Testing Engineer to join our team Wartsila Mobile Team working on different products for mobile devices. The position is temporary until 01.01.2023. The preferred location for the position is in Saint-Petersburg, Russia, but also other locations are possible. 

The team works with several mobile products. For example:

  • Wärtsilä SmartLog is a mobile app that processes the data extracted directly from Navigational Onboard software and the connected digital data services. The app allows to reduce the administrative burden on the crews and streamline reporting.
  • Wärtsilä BridgeMate is a mobile app that provides smart backup and decision support tool to enhance your safety and efficiency onboard. Situational awareness, decision support, navigation and docking aids are already available in one app.
  • Wärtsilä Pilot PRO is a mobile navigation app designed to assist pilots and navigation officers in their everyday activities. Provides absolutely mobility and freedom on the bridge, efficient and safe sea pilotage and day-by-day routine in any weather conditions.
  • Wärtsilä iSailor is a mobile navigation app designed for the mass leisure market and intended for amateur seafarers.


About products: 





What will you be doing 

In this position, your work will include manual software testing, testing documents development, and close work with the development team. On a typical day, you might be starting with Test cases creation and end the day with published test reports by these Test cases. You will not be working on this alone, even though the work requires a high level of independence, as you will have support from your team and qualified Testing Engineers.  

For us to be the best match, we expect you to have an understanding of Testing analysis and experience from working with several methods of Test design. As an ideal candidate, you have gained experience from Agile/Scrum and knowledge of the basics of object-oriented programming. For you to succeed in the position, we hope you have logical and analytical mindset competencies and be sociable.  


As Testing Engineer, your work will focus on these responsibilities: 

  • Testing of commercial products of the company
  • Working closely with development from feature idea to customers support
  • Protecting the interests of our customers 
  • Development of Testing Strategy, Procedures, and Test cases
  • Localization and documentation of software defects,
  • Development, implementation, and use of automated tests based on RobotFramework


To be successful in this role, we expect you to have: 

  • Higher technical education
  • Basic knowledge of test theory
  • Basic knowledge of C++, C# or Java
  • Ability and desire to bring tasks to completion
  • Ability to quickly switch between tasks
  • Communication
  • Logical Thinking and Analytical Mindset
  • Attention to detail
  • PC and Windows proficiency at the advanced user level
  • English


You will shine in this role when you have

  • Experience in the field of software testing from 1 year
  • Minimal development experience in any of the actual programming languages
  • In-depth knowledge of test theory
  • Ability to localize hopeless mistakes
  • Ability to plan your work independently
  • Desire to participate in the formulation of the testing process and other internal processes
  • Ability to solve user support tasks
  • Familiar with Linux, iOS, Android
  • Basic knowledge of Python 
  • Familiar with Agile and Scrum
