System Design Engineer

Key Responsibilities List of main tasks / activities:

  1. System Design - development of technical part of Tender Proposal and System Documentation, including:
  1. Technical analysis of tender requirements or RFQ. Provide needed technical support to all project participants.
  2. Interacting with customer to interpret their needs and requirements.
  3. Selection of third-party equipment and subsystems:
  • Preparation of technical specifications for third-party equipment and subsystems.
  • Checking the supplier’s quotations.
  • Coordination of specifications with suppliers in close cooperation with Purchasing dpt.
  1. Preparation of hardware and software Scope of Supply (detailed to: manufacturer, model, P/N, license, etc.).
  2. Subsystems performance calculations (e.g. Radar, AIS, CCTV, VHF, MF/HF, RDF, PS, Network).
  3. Preparation of system Technical Description.
  4. Preparation of block, connection and wiring diagrams.
  5. Site design - preparation of equipment layout drawings; sketches of equipment room, shelter, mast/tower; operator room, console etc.
  6. Preparation of Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and Site Acceptance Test (SAT) procedures.
  1. System Installation, STW and Commissioning, including:
  1. Preparation of civil works specifications and installation requirements for subcontractors.
  2. Execution of Site Survey.
  3. System assembling and configuration at workbench, execution of FAT; acceptance of third-party equipment at the factory.
  4. Supervision of civil and installation works performed by subcontractors.
  5. Execution of SAT.
  1. Support other departments (Customer Support, Academy, Development dept.) with the following tasks:
  1. Training of the customer’s operators and engineers.
  2. Preparation of technical requirements and specifications for upgrading of Wartsila software and DHW products.
  3. Confirmation of third-party product performance by conducting tests on company’s workbench.
  4. Providing of scheduled preventive maintenance.
  5. Providing of corrective maintenance, repair and technical support upon request from customer or first-line support, including:
  • Remote diagnostic and troubleshooting.
  • Elimination of failures and system recovery, if technically possible.
  • Developing of repair scenario and instruction for local maintenance staff.


Key Requirements, Skills and Qualifications:

  1. Higher technical education.
  2. Strong professional written and verbal communication skills in English.
  3. Base knowledge of:
  • radiocommunication, microwave and radar equipment,
  • electrical engineering,
  • Telecommunication networks and LAN administration,
  • reading/creating construction drawings and radio-engineering circuits,
  • executing of design documentation.
  1. Knowledge of graphic software (AutoCAD, MS Visio or analogous). Intermediate level in Microsoft Office Applications.
  2. Radio-electronic repair skills and good knowledge of measurement tools (SWR meter, oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, etc.).
  3. Familiarity with applicable engineering rules, regulations, best practices and performance standards.
  4. Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks.
  5. Time management and organization skills.
  6. Decision making ability and leadership skills.
  7. Ability and willing to travel around the world up to 50% of time.
  8. Base Project Management skills and supervision skills is advantage.
  9. Valid certificates in applicable skills (Working at height, Electrical Safety, Radar Systems, Radio Management Systems, Radio Transceivers) is advantage.
