 Wärtsilä is seeking a General Manager Operations in Special Applications to lead the Operations in the end‑to‑end business activities dedicated to nuclear and military-sector customers. Directly reporting to the Director of Wärtsilä Special Applications, this strategic role oversees the full lifecycle of the Special Applications — with the mission to reposition and grow the activity in alignment with Wärtsilä Energy Services’ strategic ambitions. This position is to be filled at our Surgères Office in France.

As a key member of Wartsila Special Applications Management Team you will drive operational excellence, ensure compliance with stringent quality and safety standards, and deliver high customer value in one of the company’s most critical and regulated business segments.

 

 

 Key Responsibilities : 

 

  • Leadership & Strategy

 

Lead and supervise the Operations across Workshop, Field Service, and Material Planner Management.

Define and drive the strategy for Special Applications, ensuring alignment with Energy Services.

Work closely with BCC to Manage P&L for the Special Applications Operations activities.

 

  • Operational Excellence

 

Ensure smooth coordination across your departments; identify priorities and resolve cross-functional issues.

You will participate to Optimize and enforce the Quality Management System specific to nuclear and military activities.

Oversee maintenance operations both onsite and in the dedicated Surgères workshop.

 

 

  • People & Organizational Development

 

Build team capabilities through recruitment, training plans, and skills development in your department.

Lead cultural and operational improvements (safety initiatives, well‑being programs, etc.).

 

  • Reporting & Governance

 

Produce business activity reporting with Business Control and identify efficiency improvements of Your department.

Support internal and external audits (ISO 9001 / 14001 / 18001 and customer-specific requirements).

Required Expertise :

 

Proven experience leading teams and organizations with profitability responsibility

Strong background in Operations management within nuclear and/or military environments

Knowledge of nuclear risk legislation (Paris/Vienna Conventions)

Understanding of export control regulations for military equipment

Experience with internal/external audits and Quality Management Systems

Fluency in English (Group's official language)
