Team Leader Mechanical Engineer

 

We are hiring a 

 

Team Leader Mechanical Engineer

 

for a permanent contract at our Surgères site, which specializes in the reconditioning of high-speed engines serving as :

  • emergency diesel generator to nuclear power plants worldwide,
  • propulsion of the French battle tank Leclerc.

 

What you will be doing 

 

As a member of the Obsolescence & Products Improvements Projects department, you will play a key role in surveillance and management of obsolescence and products improvements projects.

 

Your main activities as Mechanical Engineer will be to:

 

  • Manage obsolescence survey to identify obsolete parts and anticipate future obsolescence cases,
  • Launch the projects for obsolescence resolution or products improvements,
  • Prepare and present obsolescence survey reports to Customers,
  • Manage "Technical Request" from creation to closure in order to identify, register, track and solve obsolescence and product improvements cases,
  • Write Technical Bulletins for obsolescence declaration and resolution to our Customers,
  • As appropriate, support the Sales Department with the preparation of offers to Customers or support our Strategic Purchasers Team for business investment cases,
  • Manage return of experience before launching new projects,
  • Manage minor obsolescence resolution projects and product improvements projects from initiation to closure,
  • Coordinate resources in order to ensure good progress and meet project milestones and targets (Technical Service, Qualification Department, Supply Department, Quality Inspection, Workshop, Contract Management, Sales),
  • Proactively manage the resolution of obsolescence in cooperation with the Supply Chain and the Technical Department,
  • Participate in technical meetings with Customers to capture their needs and share projects progress,
  • Assist the related Purchaser to ensure Wärtsilä requirements are properly cascaded to suppliers and correctly considered,
  • Monitor technical developments of our engines, including developments due to obsolescence management,
  • Monitor the updating of nomenclatures in cooperation with the Master Data Department,
  • Monitor state of the art of manufacturing processes and technologies to propose new solutions,
  • Synthesize and capitalize on feedback from our customers,
  • Regularly report the projects progress to the Line Manager.

 

In addition to the above tasks, you will also be responsible for the below activities as Team Leader Mechanical Engineer:

 

  • Act as focal point for Mechanical Engineers (ensures respect of processes, support teammates when situation requires, etc.),
  • Dispatch the workload to Mechanical Engineers,
  • Support your Line Manager.

 

 

To be successful in this role, we expect you to have the following skills: 

 

  • 5 years' higher education or equivalent in a technical field,
  • Minimum 10 years in normative stringent industrial environment,
  • Experience in management role,
  • Knowledge in metallurgy processes (forged parts, molded parts, machining, surface and thermic treatments, etc.),
  • Customer oriented,
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent analytical and summarizing skills,
  • Ability to work within a project team,
  • Able to put forward suggestions for improving existing operating methods,
  • You show values and rigor to work in Nuclear environment and related processes,
  • Available to travel and meet Customers and Suppliers (20%),
  • Excellent level of French language (written and spoken),
  • Excellent level of English language (written and spoken),
  • Proficient in IT tools : Pack Office, Salesforce, SAP.
