Field Service Engineer - Shaft Line Solutions

We are now looking for a Field Service Engineer, Shaft Line Solutions (SLS) to join our team working for a better future.  

 

This is a permanent position, and candidates may be based anywhere in Canada. The role requires travel of up to 80% of the time (domestically and internationally).

 

What you will be doing  

 

As a Field Service Engineer, SLS, you will play a key role in ensuring the reliable performance of Wärtsilä shaft line systems by delivering high-quality field service, technical expertise, and customer support.

 

As a Field Service Engineer, Shaft Line Solutions, you will focus on these responsibilities:

  • Perform Field Service activities according to the work scope.
  • Perform overhauls and repairs on assemblies on site and/or in workshops.
  • Interact professionally with customers during the work execution.
  • Provide internal and external progress status updates.
  • Create Service Work Reports
  • Ensure that the work is executed according to Wärtsilä QEHS guidelines and site procedures.
  • Continuously seek solutions in accordance to best practises.

 

To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:

 

Required qualifications:

  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in the mechanical engineering industry, preferably within the marine sector.
  • Completion of an Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Fluency in English (written and verbal).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 80%, domestically and internationally; must hold or be able to obtain a valid passport.
  • Ability and willingness to work on‑call, providing support during evenings, weekends, or holidays as operational needs arise.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Demonstrated experience in installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical systems.
  • Excellent customer communication skills with the ability to clearly convey technical information, interact professionally, and deliver effective solutions during service execution.
  • Strong commitment to a safety-first mindset.

 

Desired qualifications:

  • Ideally 2+ years of hands-on experience with shaft seals or marine propulsion systems.
  • Knowledge of propulsion shaft alignment and vibration analysis is highly beneficial.
  • Experience working with electrical systems, hydraulics, or automation systems is an asset.
  • Spanish verbal skills are considered an advantage.

For applicants that reside in BC, the hourly wage range is $ 33 CAD - $ 35 CAD, plus overtime.
 
The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education, individual skill set, level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered and consideration of internal equity. 
 
Wartsila Canada offer a generous benefit package, including but not limited to; extended medical & dental coverage, RRSP matching (employer contribution up to 7% of salary), 4 weeks of vacation (increases based on years of service with Wartsila) and 5 paid personal days per year.
 
Travel Requirements: This position requires a 70% travel commitment, encompassing both domestic and international, including onshore and offshore locations. The role demands adaptability to varying travel demands, with an expectation of extended periods away from the primary work location. Prospective candidates should be prepared to fulfill these travel obligations as an integral aspect of the position's responsibilities.
