For the global Energy Storage business, the General Manager, Battery Strategic Sourcing will be a key stakeholder in defining and executing the global sourcing strategy across defined Energy Storage categories, working jointly with the global category heads. He/she will serve as the senior representative of the Energy Storage business with Chinese suppliers, leading and planning strategic partnerships and senior-level negotiations and supporting the development of the optimal supplier portfolio in China. He/she will help ensure the organisation meets both long-term business needs and short-term results, deepen partner relationships locally, and act as the senior representative and escalation point for the China sourcing team. He/she will report to the Director of the Global Strategic Sourcing.
Your main responsibilities are
- Lead and facilitate the development of the battery sourcing strategy and defined global sourcing strategies together with category teams in line with Business Line requirements, and ensure effective implementation through clear action plans and follow-up
- Lead supply market intelligence in China, covering supplier landscape, technology trends, capacity outlook, cost development and geopolitical risk
- Lead the development of the Chinese supplier base and supplier relationship management framework, including the establishment of strategic partnerships with key suppliers.
- Support the capability development of sourcing team members and promote effective collaboration across regions, without assuming line-management responsibility for the China sourcing team.
- Serve as the senior representative and primary escalation point for the China sourcing team, ensuring alignment on priorities, local execution and collaboration through appropriate functional or dotted-line coordination.
- Collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders, including global category management, supplier development & quality, product management, project management, sales and lifecycle management.
- Ensure that supplier capacity and availability will be available support global Energy Storage demand, considering cost, technology, quality, compliance, localisation and regional requirements.
- Ensure achievement of quality, cost, lead time, delivery reliability and agreement coverage targets across Wärtsilä Energy Storage’s global battery supplier base according to global category guidance.
- Lead local escalations where required.
- Ensure compliance with Supply Management processes, procedures, strategies and agreements across the global Sourcing organisation.
- Ensure effective alignment between the local China team, global Battery Sourcing team members and regional sourcing resources.
You will shine in this role when you have:
- Minimum of ten years of experience in strategic sourcing, supply chain, manufacturing or procurement, with a proven record of delivering results.
- Minimum of seven years experience in the battery or energy storage business: Knowledge of the energy storage and battery related legal, financial, commercial and technology components including battery supply-chain dynamics.
- Strong understanding of battery and direct-material cost drivers, with a proven record of implementing cost-reduction strategies.
- Excellent leadership, analytical, communication and presentation skills in a global and multicultural environment.
- Proven experience in team management is required, including setting priorities, developing people, driving accountability and coordinating resources across global or regional teams.
- Solution-oriented, proactive and results-driven mindset, with strong problem-solving capabilities.
- Self-guided and proactive team leader, able to operate under pressure and coordinate effectively across functional and dotted-line structures.
- Strong negotiation skills and the ability to build and maintain effective professional networks.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic and evolving environment.
- Chinese language capability and experience working in China are considered essential. Fluent written and spoken English
Education:
- Academic degree (B.Sc, M.Sc. or equivalent) in Electrical or Industrial Engineering or Economics
