System Test Engineer

Wärtsilä’s Energy Business is looking for a System Test Engineer for the Energy Storage & Optimization business. The role will be part of the hardware engineering team.

 

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter that can work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team. The candidate should thrive in a fast paced, constantly changing environment while the industry and company go through substantial growth.

 

Location(s) for this position is Wärtsilä’s office in Suzhou, China.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop in-depth knowledge of the electrical, mechanical, and structural components of the battery enclosure, control system, fire suppression system, , high voltage battery system, and air or liquid-based cooling system.
  • Develop product test specifications that to include establishing test plan based on design documentation and requirements specifications, design test setup, define equipment needed and acceptance criteria for tests.
  • Collaborate in a team environment and take charge of opportunities to develop optimal solutions for the product development programs.
  • Develop automation and innovative solutions for testing activities to increase efficiency and reduce time loss safety risks.
  • Execute tests in lab environment either internally or at third party lab to verify compliance with design requirements.
  • Establish clear objectives for all aspects of product testing and outline the steps necessary for successful execution.
  • Investigate and analyze test failures to deliver insightful feedback to the development team.
  • Develop testing documentation such as test plan, test schedule, test set up schematic, bill of materials, test procedure, and own test report for approval.

 

Minimum Experience and Educational Requirements

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or control.
  • Basic electrical calculations for power, voltage, peak and rms conversion, circuit analysis.
  • Familiarity with operating of lab instruments such as multimeters, power supplies, DAQ, oscilloscopes etc.
  • Familiarity with constructing test set up, basic wiring, soldering and assembling skills.  
  • Thorough understanding of safety operation of high voltage, high current equipment and typical procedure of lock out tag out.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with vendor and team members in a fast-paced environment.
  • 5+ years of electrical engineering experience focusing on testing electrical or electronic systems.
  • Willing to travel 20% of the time.

 

Preferred Experience and Educational Requirements

  • Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering or control.
  • Experience with generator or Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) testing.
  • Experience with testing of battery and energy storage systems is a plus.
  • Safety or EMC compliance experience.
  • Working knowledge of industrial control philosophies and communication protocols.
