The position of BESS Commissioning Engineer will be part of the growing Site Management & Commissioning Organization and report to Senior Manager of Site Management & Commissioning. The BESS Commissioning Engineer is mainly responsible to oversee and execute the commissioning of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) including Battery Modules, Inverters, Transformers, Servers and Control Cabinets. Applicant should have solid understanding of fundamental electrical engineering, project work and construction principals. In this position you will work closely with the other site team members including Site Manager, Commissioning Manager, Quality Engineer, other Commissioning Engineers and other various groups to successfully commission project as per specified timeline and contract requirements. During site assignment the BESS Commissioning Engineer will report to Commissioning Manager
Reporting and Work Location:
- This position shall report to the Senior Manager of Site Management & Commissioning
- Location: Australia remote based with time spent on site during Commissioning phases
- Job requires intensive travelling and ability to stay at site during site execution for extended periods.
Job Specific Responsibilities:
- Commissioning of Battery Energy Storage Systems and related equipment
- Collaborate with the relevant team in the preparation and coordination of projects technical materials
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define and execute testing protocols to achieve commercial operation, based on market rules, local utility requirements, and contracts.
- Communicate commissioning tasks and test procedures and activities with the client.
- Maintain commissioning time schedule.
- Organize start-up and tests of equipment within the scope of the contract.
- Ensure that commissioning plan and performance tests procedures are followed.
- Safeguard the compliance with EHS policies and minimize risks during commissioning.
- Ensure that safe commissioning practices are followed.
- Ensure that all test results are documented according to Wärtsilä instructions.
- Manage integration of project quality documentation to commissioning procedures.
- Maintain good reporting practices.
- Ensure that safe and calibrated test equipment are used.
- Ensure that all required documents are submitted and signed by the client for taking over of the plant.
- Compile commissioning documents for submittal to the client.
- Ensure safe and reliable function of the plant and equipment.
- Ownership of administrative responsibilities including, but not limited to commissioning reports, issue logging/tracking, job safety analysis, quality compliance.
- Drive continuous improvement on developing and capturing technical problem-solving knowledge to enable other organizations to effectively resolve customer problems and inquiries.
Minimum Skills Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent work experience
- 3 years’ experience with renewable energy: Energy Storage System and/or Solar Utility Scale, Power Systems, Transmission, Communication Network, and related Software.
Additional Job Requirements
- Familiar with lithium-ion battery
- Familiar with relevant codes and standards for ESS and inverters (AS/NZ, NEC, IBC, IFC, NFPA, UL, IEC)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate highly complex engineering, construction and operational issues
- Ability to execute many tasks in parallel, self-directed, highly detail-oriented, organized and flexible
- Experience with utility scale energy storage and/or renewable energy projects and products
- Understanding of utility generation project engineering, construction, and commissioning practices.
- Applicant should be able to read and understand drawings of electrical controls for industrial automation, switchgear control and protection, medium voltage equipment, networks schematics, including CAD drawings.
- Knowledge of multimeters, oscilloscopes power quality analysis, harmonics and their operation.
- Understanding and experience of programmable logic controllers (PLC) and industrial electronic equipment (protection relays, inverters, BMS, etc.).
- Experience with industrial control methods, switching processes and SCADA systems.
