GEMS Commissioning Engineer

The position of GEMS Commissioning Engineer will be part of the growing Site Management & Commissioning Organization and report to Senior Manager of Site Management & Commissioning. The GEMS Commissioning Engineer is mainly responsible to oversee commissioning of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) instrumentation, establishing field communication with devices and troubleshooting. Applicant should have solid understanding of PLC, SCADA, automation, networking, programming and fundamental electrical engineering. Applicant will closely work with the following group: Project Management, Project Delivery, Integrated Applications team and other various groups to successfully commission project as per specified timeline and contract requirements. During site assignment the GEMS Commissioning Engineer will report to Commissioning Manager

 

Your main responsibilities are

  • As part of the Commissioning team, you will commission and deploy software & control technologies on our GEMS SW platform according to our solution standards and project requirements that solve electrical power and energy problems. You will often need to innovate to meet new challenges.
  • When it comes to coding, you will need to code/understand Java, XML,  JavaScript and Python languages from time to time.
  • You will need to read a decent amount of electrical engineering documents to understand the design and will develop technical documents of your own according to our standards.
  • You will work closely with other electrical, solutions and software engineers when commissioning projects.
  • Extensive travel domestic/internationally is required from you to perform commissioning works at the Battery Energy Storage sites, or hybrid power plants.


You will shine in this role when you have:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering with experience in substations, power plants and power transmission systems or BESS.
  • Experience or knowledge of SCADA standards and products
  • Basic knowledge of programming – Java, JavaScript, python.
  • Knowledge of Networking – VLAN, NAT, and basic principle of switches and routers configuration.
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocol (Modbus, OPC UA, DNP3, IEC-61850)
  • Passionate about renewable energy.
  • Attention to details and good time management skill. Ability to multi-tasking and engage multiple projects simultaneously.

 
Optional and Preferred, but we can teach you if you are a fast learner

  • Knowledge of TCP/IP network communication devices and protocols
  • Java experience
  • Experience with DNP3, IEC-61850, IEC-61870-104-5
  • Grasp of cybersecurity principles and practices in software products
  • Familiar with Linux OS
  • Working experience with Modern software development management tools including JIRA, GIT, and Confluence.
  • Familiar with ssh and tunneling.
  • Working experience with Docker and/or Kubernetes.
  • Experience in creating HMI screens.
  • Experience with drawing tools to create diagrams such as SLD, P&ID, such as ACAD, or Visio.
