Position: Senior Expert, Technical Service (4-Stroke Portfolio)

At Wärtsilä Australasia, we are seeking a Senior Expert in Technical Service for our 4-stroke portfolio. This role provides high-quality, uninterrupted technical support to customers across the Australasia region.

The Senior Expert will be responsible for supporting operations in Australia, New Zealand, Philippines, Papua New Guinea, and the Pacific. Wärtsilä Australia oversees business in these countries, with a combined Energy and Marine installed base of about 1.3 GW. Recently secured projects—160 MW of new Energy installations and 90 MW of Marine installations in Australia—will increase the total installed base to 1.9 GW by 2027.

 

What You Will Be Doing

  • Analyze technical problems and provide conclusions, recommendations, and reports.

  • Report work progress to relevant stakeholders.

  • Deliver technical support to internal teams (Service Sales, Operation Support, Field Service, Warranty) and external customers.

  • Conduct site visits for advanced product/system/performance analysis.

  • Perform on-site troubleshooting, diagnosis, and root cause analysis (RCA).

  • Support sales teams with technical discussions and customer meetings.

  • Participate in product introductions, testing, and follow-up.

  • Stay updated on new products, bulletins, and field tests.

  • Provide input for product improvement processes, service bulletins, and documentation.

  • Conduct RCA on complex issues (mechanical, electrical, auxiliaries).

  • Implement product improvements for non-portfolio products.

  • Act as a trainer in areas of special expertise.

  • Analyze field experience and customer feedback to improve products and solutions.

  • Acquire and maintain know-how within your technical expert area.

 

To Be Successful in This Role, You Should Have

  • Diploma in Mechanical/Marine Engineering with minimum 15 years’ experience, or Bachelor’s degree with minimum 10 years’ experience.

  • Strong knowledge of W32, Vaasa 32, W34DF/SG, W46DF/SG/F, W50DF/SG, and classic engines (Stork TM & SW, Bolnes, Nohab, GMT, Sulzer ZA40/ZA40S).

  • Extensive expertise in data analytics and troubleshooting.

  • In-depth understanding of operations and maintenance management procedures.

  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.

  • Willingness to travel domestically and overseas as required.
