Senior Sales Engineer

We are looking for a qualified and enthusiastic Senior Sales Engineer ideally based in Sydney Australia, working in our growth markets in Australia, Middle East and Asia (MEA) region.

 

You will be a member of the Sales Engineering Team in global Sales Management organization, reporting to the Manager, Sales Engineering MEA in the region. Preferred location of the candidate will be in Australia. Qualified candidate ought to be Legally authorized to work in Australia without sponsorship.

 

What are your main tasks and responsibilities?

Accountabilities:

  • Subject matter expert for Energy Storage in the Americas region including expertise in the technical design of systems and identification of the business models that support the economic case to deploy storage.
  • Work closely with the product engineering and software/controls teams utilise energy sizing tools to perform simulation analyses for system sizing and system performance optimization that suites customer’s applications.
  • Work closely with the existing Wartsila Sales team to help identify and engage with key customers and key accounts within the area, and support and maintain customer/partner/supplier relationships relative to Energy Storage.
  • Manage RFP/RFP/RFI response process including determining bidding strategy and partners selection when required, and to collaborate with partners to create, develop and submit winning responses and proposal.

 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Area Sales team to help identify and engage with key customers/accounts, and support and maintain relationships relative to Energy Storage.
  • Manage RFP/RFQ/RFI response process including determining bidding strategy and partner selection and collaborating with such partners to submit winning responses and drafting the actual proposal
  • Lead proposal creation for energy storage and hybrid Solar plus storage projects.
  • Responsible for proposal contents creation specifically to response to customer requirements and delivering unique value points for the integrated solution that suite customer’s request.
  • Design and generate high-level and detailed system design drawings, layouts, single line diagrams/schematics.
  • Responsible for creation and specify the appropriate system components, calculation of component ratings and the required quantities, together generation of a detailed bills of material for material and labour cost budget estimation.
  • Interface with subcomponent suppliers and vendors to understand the form, fit and function of their products and services integrating with Wartsila’s BESS system; and determine the suitable solution that is best suited for customer’s requirements.
  • Utilise value concepts & design tools defining the right value solutions for each customer in the region.
  • Responsible for supporting Area Sales from new project creation, proposal development and contract negotiation until project handoff to the execution/Delivery teams

 

Development Responsibilities:

  • Help further development of energy storage and hybrids solution Sales Tools and proposal management process to support during the sales stage.
  • Support alignment with the Organization’s approval process during the sales stage.

 

What do we expect from you?

  1. Education:
  • BS/MS/PhD in Electrical Engineering or Power Engineering, or equivalent work experience.

 

  1. Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years of utility scale ESS (technical and commercial) experience with the energy storage and renewable energy markets, projects, and products (bi-directional inverters, various battery chemistries, Solar/PV, wind turbines), particularly in Australia or the Asia Pacific region.
     
  1. Other skills and requirements:
  • Strong understanding of utility generation project development process
  • Experience with industrial control methods and SCADA systems is considered a benefit.
  • Strong written and oral skills. Must be a proven and competent English writer, able to create grammatically correct and properly structured English proposal documents, as well as being able to present technical solutions and products in a consistent manner to customer.
  • Competent with ACAD or equivalent drafting tools
  • Able to read and understand system schematics, single-line drawings, and layout drawings
  • Understanding of CE, UL, IEEE, IEC and NEC standards as applicable to the local region.
  • Knowledgeable in utility systems and interconnection requirements for electric generators.
  • Medium-voltage system design and construction background is desirable
  • Passion for innovation, ability to adapt to fasting changing market demands, working independently and as a team member
  • Willingness to take ownership and produce exceptional results
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products
  • Solid organizational skills including attention to details, multi-tasking skills and a strong work ethic
  • Excellent teamwork skills
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority
  • Energetic and enthusiastic approach
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast paced work environment
  • Flexibility to work with a global team located across different time zones.
  • Ability to travel as needed (estimated 10-20% of time)
  • Existing relationships with regional EPCs, Developers or IPPs are an advantage
