Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Service Technician – 4 Stroke Services to join our team in Huntingwood, NSW.
In this role, you will be responsible for the installation, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and overhaul of Wärtsilä 4-stroke engines and associated auxiliary equipment across the marine and energy sectors. Working closely with customers, service coordinators, project teams, and Wärtsilä technical specialists, you will play a key role in ensuring the reliability, performance, and lifecycle support of customer assets throughout Australia, New Zealand, and the wider region.
This position offers the opportunity to work on industry-leading engine technologies in diverse environments, including power plants, shipyards, onboard vessels, customer facilities, and Wärtsilä workshops.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform installation, commissioning, maintenance, overhaul, repair, and troubleshooting activities on Wärtsilä 4-stroke engines and associated equipment.
• Execute field service activities in accordance with Wärtsilä standards, quality requirements, procedures, and safety guidelines.
• Conduct inspections, measurements, technical assessments, and prepare accurate service reports and supporting documentation.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance activities to maximize equipment reliability and performance.
• Maintain and care for service tools, equipment, and workshop facilities to ensure readiness and compliance.
• Liaise closely with Service Coordinators, Project Managers, customers, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.
• Ensure assigned work scopes are completed safely, within budget, on schedule, and in accordance with customer expectations.
• Promote compliance with Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental (QHSE) requirements at all times.
• Participate actively in continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to achieving Wärtsilä's goal of zero injuries.
• Support workshop and field service activities as required, including overtime and flexible working arrangements to meet customer commitments.
• Travel domestically and internationally to support customer operations, commissioning activities, maintenance projects, and emergency service requirements.
Qualifications & Experience
• Certificate, Trade Qualification, Diploma, or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Trade, or an equivalent technical discipline.
• Minimum 1 years of experience performing preventive and corrective maintenance on large industrial or marine 4-stroke engines.
• Experience with gas or dual-fuel engines will be highly regarded.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with practical experience in engine overhauls, maintenance, and field service operations.
• Strong commitment to safety, quality, and environmental compliance.
• Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Good reporting and documentation skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other standard computer applications.
• Willingness and availability to travel domestically and internationally as required, with travel comprising up to 80% of working time.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements
The successful candidate will work in a variety of environments, including workshops, shipyards, vessels, power plants, and customer sites.
The role may involve:
• Working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Exposure to noise, mechanical equipment, electrical equipment, pressurised systems, and moving machinery.
• Working at heights and in confined spaces where required.
• Manual handling of tools, equipment, and components in accordance with safe work practices.
• Standing, walking, bending, squatting, kneeling, climbing, and driving as part of daily duties.
• Exposure to dust, fumes, odours, and industrial working environments while adhering to strict safety procedures.
