Field Service and Workshop is currently seeking an enthusiastic Workshop Engineer to join our skilled team in Sydney, Australia. This role is open to applicants within Australia and requires daily attendance at our Sydney workshop.
The position reports to the Field Service and Workshop Manager. We are looking for candidates who demonstrate strong critical thinking and reasoning skills, identify as high performers, and are self-motivated.
Accountabilities:
In this role, you will be responsible for servicing engines, including performing overhauls and repairs on 4-stroke engines.
We are looking for candidates with technical experience in the repair and overhaul of reciprocating engines.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform maintenance, repair, and overhaul of 4-stroke engine components using workshop equipment.
- Overhaul cylinder heads, ensuring precision and adherence to specifications.
- Machine cylinder head bores and sealing surfaces, as well as engine blocks, to ensure proper fit and function.
- Inspect, test, and calibrate fuel injection systems for optimal performance.
- Overhaul cylinder liners, pistons, connecting rods, and charge air coolers.
- Regularly maintain and service workshop machinery and equipment.
- Monitor and report on the progress of assigned work, both internally and externally.
- Follow up and report on the status of work orders to customers and internal stakeholders.
- Prepare and complete detailed inspection, test, and service work reports.
- Ensure that all work is executed according to Wärtsilä QEHS guidelines and procedures.
- Actively participate in Wärtsilä initiatives to promote safety, environmental sustainability, and quality.
- Continuously seek solutions based on best practices.
To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:
- A strong safety-first mindset.
- Technical experience in reciprocating engine repair and overhaul, coupled with practical problem-solving skills.
- A passion for advancing your knowledge of 4-stroke engines.
- Proven experience in the operation and maintenance of turbochargers, pumps, heat exchangers, fuel systems, lubrication systems, and cooling systems.
- Professional interaction and solution delivery to customers during work execution.
- Experience with medium-speed 4-stroke engines.
- Beneficial experience in working with electrical systems.
- Ideal candidate has successfully completed Certificate III in Marine Mechanical Technology AUR30520-01, along with 2+ years of experience as a Marine Engine Fitter.
- Relevant technical education or qualifications, combining education and experience.
- A valid Australian driver's license.

Travel Requirements:
This position requires a travel commitment of over 10%, covering both domestic and international destinations, including onshore and offshore locations. The role requires adaptability to varying travel demands, with the expectation of extended periods away from the primary work location. Prospective candidates should be prepared to meet these travel obligations as a key aspect of the position's responsibilities.

The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education, individual skill set, level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered and consideration of internal equity.
