Wärtsilä Field Service & Workshop is looking for an enthusiastic and skilled Workshop Engineer to join our Sydney team. This role requires daily attendance at our Sydney workshop and is open to applicants currently based in Australia.
We’re searching for a technically talented, self‑motivated individual who thrives on hands‑on engine work, demonstrates strong critical‑thinking abilities, and consistently performs at a high level. Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out maintenance, repair, and overhaul of 4‑stroke engine components using specialised workshop equipment.
- Overhaul cylinder heads with precision and adherence to technical specifications.
- Machine cylinder head bores, sealing surfaces, and engine blocks to ensure accurate fit and performance.
- Inspect, test, and calibrate fuel injection equipment.
- Overhaul components including cylinder liners, pistons, connecting rods, and charge air coolers.
- Perform routine servicing and upkeep of workshop tools and machinery.
- Monitor, track, and report progress on assigned jobs internally and to customers.
- Follow up on work order status with customers and internal stakeholders.
- Prepare detailed inspection, testing, and service reports.
- Ensure all work complies with Wärtsilä QEHS standards, procedures, and best practices.
- Actively participate in safety, quality, and environmental initiatives.
- Continuously seek opportunities to improve processes and efficiency.
To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:
- Completion of Certificate III in Marine Mechanical Technology (AUR30520‑01) and ideally 2+ years’ experience as a Marine Engine Fitter.
- A strong safety‑first mindset.
- Proven technical experience in reciprocating engine repair and overhaul.
- A genuine interest in advancing your knowledge of 4‑stroke engines.
- Experience with turbochargers, pumps, heat exchangers, fuel systems, lubrication systems, and cooling systems.
- Professional customer interaction skills and a solution‑oriented approach.
- Hands‑on experience with medium‑speed 4‑stroke engines.
- Advantageous: exposure to electrical systems.
- Relevant mechanical/technical qualifications through education and/or experience.
- Excellent service work reporting skills.
- A valid Australian driver’s licence.
Your accountabilities and success metrics include:
- Deliver high‑quality servicing, repairs, and overhauls on 4‑stroke engines.
- Maintain high standards of customer satisfaction.
- Achieve zero rework through quality-focused execution.
- Ensure full compliance with company policies and HSE requirements.
- Meet KPI targets set by the Global Field Service Team.

Travel Requirements:
This position requires a travel commitment of over 10%, covering both domestic and international destinations, including onshore and offshore locations. The role requires adaptability to varying travel demands, with the expectation of extended periods away from the primary work location. Prospective candidates should be prepared to meet these travel obligations as a key aspect of the position's responsibilities.

The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education, individual skill set, level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered and consideration of internal equity.
