We are now looking for a

Senior Mechanical Product Development Engineer

to join our Product Development and Engineering team of ten people working on a more sustainable future through mechanical and automation upgrades of the world’s largest vessels. The position is permanent. The preferred location for the position is Trieste, Italy. 

What you will be doing 

For us to be the best match, we expect you to have a strong and consolidated technical knowledge in mechanical in general with specific focus on Wartsila engines.
The work requires a high level of responsibility and independency, nevertheless a good attitude for internal and external cooperation is mandatory. The candidate has to be able to establish and maintain fruitful relationships with all parts involved in his working activities as Technical and Field Services, Product managers, Project Centre department etc…
The work mainly concerns design of new solutions for mechanical upgrades with specific focus on alternative fuel as methanol. Furthermore obsolescence, product care and product maintenance cases are part or the daily activities.

As Senior Mechanical Product Development Engineer, your work will focus mainly on these responsibilities/activities:

• Manage defined service product development projects.
• Make necessary documentation like product specifications and product structures in accordance with the product development process.
• Follow-up of pilot installations of new products.
• Participate in product development programs with sub-suppliers.
• Make engines specifications for customer delivery projects.
• Cross check and verify engine design in 3D NX-CAD.
• Provide remote technical support for the installation and commissioning of ongoing projects.
• Perform FEM calculation and analysis.
• Be in contact and keep relationship with Class Societies for related activities.
• Provide support to all internal and external stakeholders as Technical Service, Product Management, Content, Change Management and Sales departments.

To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:

• M.Sc or B.Sc in Mechanical Engineering.
• Knowledge Wartsila engines and Wartsila products in general.
• Knowledge of Team Center, NX, Autocad, SAP.
• Knowledge of engineering tools and project management is seen as an advantage.
• Good command of English, both oral and written.
• Good soft skills in general with specific focus on problem solving, interpersonal communication, cooperation and stress management.
• In this role, some travels could be necessary to meet our customers around the world or to perform technical inspections on board. Thus, we hope you to be ready to travel if needed even though most of the meetings are held virtually.
