Sr. Product Improvement Engineer

We are now looking for a 

 

Senior Product Improvement Engineer

 

to join our team working for a better future. The position is permanent and the preferred location is in Trieste, Genova (IT), but also Turku, Vaasa (FIN) are possible locations. 

 

What you will be doing 

 

You’ll be working in a team which is accountable for Product Improvement Process of Large Bore Engines.

 

As Sr. Product Improvement Engineer, your work will focus on these responsibilities: 

 

  • Lead and manage assigned product improvement projects as comprehensive projects, ensuring timely and effective execution.
  • Develop detailed project plans, including timelines, resource allocation, and risk management strategies, to drive product improvement initiatives
  • Collaborate with cross-functional and cross-divisional teams to gather insights, identify improvement opportunities, and implement solutions.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date data in our systems (i.e., Salesforce and Polarion), which are integral tools for the Product Improvement Process.
  • Monitor and report on project progress, providing regular updates to stakeholders and ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by identifying and promoting best practices and innovative solutions.


To be successful in this role, we expect you to have: 

 

  • BSc or MSc in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • More than 3 years of experience with diesel and/or gas engines, or in a similar technical field.
  • Strong problem-solving and solution-finding skills, with a proactive approach to addressing challenges.
  • Proficiency in risk management, with the ability to identify, assess, and mitigate potential risks.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and guide teams towards achieving project goals.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong command of English, both oral and written, with the ability to convey technical information clearly and concisely.
  • Project management experience is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of Wärtsilä business and products is considered a significant advantage.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required to support project activities and collaborate with global teams.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Experience with continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, or similar.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to diesel and gas engines.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing complex projects from inception to completion.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.

 

In this role, some travel is required to meet with our customers around the world. Thus, we hope you to be ready to travel approximately 10%, even though most of the meetings are held virtually.
